Because an optic on a G17 will make the whole 'sight radius' benefit moot.

So I bought both thinking I would compete with the 34. Added a tungsten guide rod which made a huge difference in the handling of both guns.
I added the extended slide stop and mag release to the 17 along with the minus trigger.
Between the both of them the 17 shoots so much better and more accurately. So now I compete with the 17.
Wish the 34 shot better as it is a gen 4 MOS and fits better than the gen 3 17.
So after owning both I would say the 17.

G34 Nicer trigger pull and controls. Slide cuts are nice too

I would get the 34 if you’re doing action shooting. But in all honesty, either will do a fine job on that front.

I prefer the G34 over the G17 for everything except the extended mag release on the g34. It bites into my hands a little. Minor issue really.

                G34.
Better trigger, less recoil, and longer sight radius.

I actually was completely underwhelmed with G34 performance. I shoot better with a G17.

I would seriously recommend renting each so you can see for yourself if one will be better than the other.

I fired 124gr 9mm NATO out of my G34 and it handled very well

then I fired some in my G19 and it had a noticeable snap to it during firing

the G34 has pretty good handling / control, the longer slide & barrel helps.

Easy. Both. I got the g17 then bought the complete 34 slide. 1 frame 2 complwte slides. Love em both.

                            Sidenote-
Do any competition shooters use a rail mounted weight on their glocks?
Or muzzle breaks or a combination of both?

19 or 34 unless you find a nice LE trade in 17 for $300.
