Switching from three-dot to two-dot sights

I've used three-dot sights religiously since I started shooting. I've been really curious about trying the i-dot/straight-8/ style sights (dot-on-a-dot). A lot of people swear by them for ease of acquisition and speed.

What are your favorite dot-on-dot sights? Trit rear or no trit rear?

Anyone using the Ameriglo CAP sights? This seems like a ridiculously simple system to use.

I like them on my G26. The paint really pops in direct sunlight too.

They both work... I guess i like the i-dots more though. The ones I have (three sets) are tritium front and rear.

The CAP sights work great. Super fast and easy to pick up. The tritium front is a bit weak compared to Truglo TFX sights but they work well. Another great Sight is the Truglo TFX. Real fast to pick up and bright at night and day.

I used to like 3-dot sights but switched to XS Standard dot sights and have them on most of my pistols. I find that they are very natural and easy to use. I don't compete so I'm not worried about the fastest possible split time, but besides that I've never had an issue with finding the front sight and getting the gun on target with XS Standard Dots.

I prefer the standard dots with the tritium rear stripe. I would give the different style of sights a try, I bet you will like it. I like the brightness of fiber optic front sights, but don't like having the plastic piece on the front sight, seems kind of cheap for some reason.

Agreed. Dawson Precision sights are my favorite, along with the Bob Vogel sights, which I believe are made by Dawson

Multiple time shooting champion Robert Vogel has released the Vogel Dynamics Glock Pistol Sights to the public. They are available for purchase now.

Tactical training / competition = blacked out front/ rear
Carry gun = three green dot night sights.

I'm really curious why. Is it because there's a higher degree of liability that requires a higher degree of accuracy?

You guys ever had a fiber front sight pop out?

I had a fiber bead sight on an over/under about a decade ago. It popped out during a round of skeet. I've never looked at fiber sights since. I wonder if the pistol sights built to be more bomb proof?

There are tough options like Hiviz Tactical where they are permanent and protected with a clear shield over a steel sight. Pretty sure these are the type Ruger uses on some revolvers like the SP101 .22, .357 Match Champion, etc... I have one on a Glock22. Larger diameter Ameriglo fo fronts I have on Glocks are really tough too. Dawson are easy to pickup but the one I have users pretty fragile light pipes but easy to replace. I think I only have Dawson on a 17L slide... Ameriglo works and is my go to.

There's a concept of "visual clutter". Overly complicated sights confuse and distract the eye and brain, particularly when speed is an issue.

We use the rear sight like the aperture of a camera: we don't look at the rear sight, but through it.

When you have bright dots or dashes on the rear sight, your eyes and brain want to naturally fixate on them, they are closest to the eyes after all. But what are we *supposed* to focus on?

                        The front sight.

Think of trying to have a conversation with someone across from you at a table, but someone sitting next to you is talking loudly.

The someone across the table is your front sight, the loud talker beside you is the rear sight with dots/dashes.
^^^^ This is the best, most concise explanation I have heard yet on this subject!

Simple is better in my book.

I use simple old school black sights to get a clean crisp sight picture enabling me to focus on the "clear tip" of my front sight. Not, a dot, dash or optic some millimeters below it. Additionally, properly installed (stock) steel sights are the most durable and therefore the most reliable. Many, but not all people using the dots / dashes and optics do so because their eyesight is failing as they get older.

I use plain green three dot night sights because that is what I prefer... and have used to train with for a long time. This may surprise many of the younger shooters in the forum but at one time, tritium night sights were one color... green. I find them easy and fast to use... FOR ME. For every one of my carry guns with night sights, I have the same gun with plain black sights for daylight training.

After using 3-dots for a long time, went to 2-dot Ameriglo I-dot Pro on a Glock 34....and like them better.

Now, just went Ameriglo Hackathorn on my Glock 26....black rear, orange ring + tritium front.....and I think I like that even more.

So, from 3 dots to 2 to 1....seems to be working for me.
