    Closing the cylinder gap.

" Manufactured at their armory in Liege, Fabrique d’Armes et Leon Nagant, Leon and Emile’s gas seal employed a clever mechanical repositioning of the cylinder, which moved forward and against the forcing cone when the hammer was cocked, thereby completely sealing the cylinder gap."

This is on the famous Nagant revolver of the late 1800's, early 1900s. I can think of some minuses to having this feature on revolvers. I wonder if anyone can tell me the main reason that other later revolvers from the various manufacturers did not have this on their models?

More precise manufacturing and better cartridge composition made the additional mechanical complexity unnecessary; wasn’t really worth it.

But I do love my $75 Nagant!

Not relevant to California, but a sealed chamber makes a silencer possible...
