what do you guys use to clean your 1911? what type of oil and what kind of kit...etc....

Breakfree CLP for everything. If I'm feeling lazy I'll just take all the parts and put them into a Ziploc bag and spray it down very liberally with CLP. Usually I'll let it soak in there for a few hours, sometimes overnight and by then it will be nicely cleaned and lubricated.

i take it you use the aerosol spray? when you take the parts out you wip them down of course right? do you add any other oil to the slides?

i use hoppes#9 solvent and hoppes gun oil. clean it well, then 2 drops on each rail. good to go

Hoppes #9, blue wonder for the bore, rem-oil for the lil bits, and shooters choice grease on the rails.

Yeah I use the spray. I usually don't wipe the parts down before hand as the time the parts spend in the bag should be enough to loosen up all the carbon and dirt so when I take the parts out, I just give them a once over with a rag, clean the bore (easily), and lubricate all the parts.

For lubrication I use Breakfree in it's oil form. Iput one drop inbetween the locking lug recesses and spread the lubrication between the two lugs. One drop on the barrel locking lugs, barrel link, and a drop on the barrel's exterior that I spread around with my fingers. One drop goes on the inside and outside of my bushing that I just spread around again with my finger. I then lay the slide vertically and put a drop of lube down each of the slide rail recesses so that the lube can flow all the way down the full length of the rails. Reassemble and wipe of all excesses.

what exaclty do you put in the bag....the slide, barrel and the little parrts correct? not the frame.

It depends. I clean my gun every 500 rounds. For that I put the barrel, bushing, the entire recoil spring assembly (minus the spring of course), extractor, firing pin (minus the spring), and firing pin block inside a bag. The entire slide goes into another bag so the small parts don't scratch up the slide. Spray CLP liberally on the small parts, and just enough to coat the entire slide as well as the channels for the firing pin and extractor (use one of those compressed air cans for computer cleaning to blow the oil out later). The frame I just take a toothbrush and oil then brush off the grime in the dustcover, feed ramp, frame rails, and back of the frame where the ejector, and disconnector are located.

For detail cleaning at say 1000-1500 rounds (or whenever you want), I do the above while completely stripping the frame and taking all the parts minus the MSH (main spring housing) and plunger tube spring and dumping them into a bag filled with CLP. The frame gets it own bag of CLP as well, and as stated before, use those cans of compressed air to blow the CLP out of the hard to scrub areas after you've scrubbed it with a brush.

For reference I put enough CLP in a bag full of the small parts to just barely have all the parts submerged in oil.

I use Ed's Red solution when I need to do a major cleaning. I put solution into a sonic cleaner for 6-8 minutes then wipe down with a clean rag. I then run a snake down the barrel just because... the whole gun minus grips gets this treatment. I've done this for years and it has worked beautifully.
