Im looking for a Colt SAA type revolver in 45 Colt. I checked the DOJ list, and not many choices. Can someone give me some advice on what is out there for us. Thanks

Single actions do not have to be on the list.

SKSCJ -- there are a LOT of SAAs out there -- many of teh differnet brands are made by the same company in Italy, Uberti.

The US Patent Repeating Firearms revolvers are made in the US in Hartford, Conn., and are the most accurate recreations of Colt SAAs (and the most expensive)

Real current manufacture SAAs from COLT are available for around 12-1300 dollars (avoid the "colt Cowboy" as this is a crappy german made gun colt imported so they could have a cheap gun in the catalog)

Under 1000 bucks I like the Cimarrons --- which are made in Italy by Uberti and very good colt SAA clones -- excellent --

Which are well timed and shoot where you point them --
And can be ordered with their "US FINISH" which is rell bone case hardening done by DogTurnbull -- check out the colors --

For a little less than Cimarrons EMF in Santa Ana California has the line of "GREAT WESTERN II: Saas in blue, nickel or STAINLESS STEEL.

These ar emy only recommendations. Avoid Ruger Vaqueros unless your looking for a SASS gun in .357 -- they are very strong but do not look or feel like "Real Colts."

If you are looking for older Colts and you are in the North Bay, I mention only because of "Nuclear Free Zone" in the OPs location, check Sportsmen's Arms on Bodega Ave in Petaluma. He has some older SAAs, with the price tagging comensurate with age and condition. He also has quite a few elderly Winchesters across a variety of models if you were looking to "go authentic".

Another source, known personally to me, for real collectible Colts (all C&R stuff) is http://www.1898andb-4.com/.

If you are looking for modern manufacture, +1 on all the above.

That Cimarron is gorgeous. I was also looking at the USFA SAA, and the Beretta Stampede Deluxe, in 45LC. Man these are all real nice guns. Its gonna be tough. I found a new love for these SAAs. Too bad for the bank account.

I like my autos for sure, but my favorite and most accurate gun to shoot is my Taylor's (made by Uberti) SAA with 5 1/2" barrel. Maybe because I grew up in Texas, my favorite book is Lonesome Dove and I could watch Tombstone again right now... The SAA is just a different kind of cool.
