    Mounting light to rail

Picked up a TLR1-HL for my XD9. Should I use one of the mounting "keys" for it, or just the rail attachment? I would feel better using a key as well if I can

use what works, make sure its a good fit and doesn't move. The keys just ensure you're using the right notch for the specific rail, which is more crucial for makes like the glock, sig, etc. AFAIK the XD has a standard pic/1913 rail on it, there should be a key for that.

I think you would use the key labeled “1913” for that gun.

You need to use the key that fits the gun or it can potentially slide forward/rearward. The 1913 key should work

The attachment that comes on the light should lock right up with the XD out the box. Have you tried it?

I have tried it. It had the 1913 on it. I am probably just a moron, but I could not get it on there. It currently does not have any key installed.

Try the Glock key. We'll see if my google-fu is still good :-)

Here is a list of what keys to use. It calls for the Glock key in all xd except the 3”. I think this is the right one. Not sure about that brand but some you can shift the position forward and back a little with different keys but some have more slop than others.

Fine looking pistol. Good choice of light as well. I do, however, prefer the barrel and light to be flush with one another. But that’s just a cosmetic preference.

Oh, the xd9 isn't new. It is newer, I have about 400 rounds through it so far, lost count actually. Just got a light for it. It is the 4" service model. Has a set of traction grips on it too.
