DDMK18 Pistol Lower - What Upper?

I've got a DDMK18 Pistol lower that I need to put an upper together for and wanted suggestions. I'm not opposed to building something myself, but frankly I'm leaning towards a complete upper. I've got around $2k give or take as a budget, I do like higher end stuff as that's what I'll be leaning toward. I already have a 7.5" pistol build and was thinking of doing this one as a 10.5 or 11.5, any suggestions?

    Some options and inspiration:

    Radian Upper

    KAC SR15 CQB Upper:

    SLR Rifleworks:

Any reason not to get a DD MK18 upper and make it a complete MK18?

Not a fan of the quad rail, which I could switch out I guess but then I'd rather just build a better upper.

I’d go MK18 if I were in your position. But your opposition to the quad rail is understandable.

Everything in the lower is going to get changed out, it's basically just going to be used a shell as the trigger, pins, safety select etc are all going to get upgraded.

I really don't have an interest in milspec standard issue boring stuff, yea it works fine for what it is, but not what I'm after. I have no plans of using this rig in self defense situations or for training, it's going to be more of a range toy fun-gun.

Get the DD upper and just swap out the rail for a DD M-lok rail, or whatever rail you want. That DD RIS II MK18 rail is worth alot of money.

the heat treatment coloring on the barrel reminds me of tuner exhaust tips on a Honda... take it as you will

It also occurs on the exhaust panels of F22's, not sure what your point is?

It's the 11.5 CQB SR15 which you can also get as an upper only. Mostly likely I'll be leaning towards the 11.5 or 11.3 barrel upper options as I've already got a 7.5 barrel and will be doing a 4.5 barrel build later on.

If you're trying to build a "gucci" upper, pick the best barrel you want. Something like a DD 11.5 or BCM 11.5, then whatever rail you like. You seem to like SLR, so whatever flavor of SLR 10.7" that will give you the close fit rail to muzzle look.

If you want a 10.3" or 10.5" go with a 9.5 or 9.7 SLR rail respectively.

Or if you want a retro look, get the DD 11.5" FSP barrel with a C7 upper and polymer handguards.

The KAC is tempting, I have a SR15 rifle that I've ran through hell and back and haven't had any issues with.
