    First Post!! A semi-auto debate!

Hello Calgunners, First time poster here! Starting a debate as I've recently gotten into the market for a budget friendly semi-auto. Something heavy, durable, but also not a wallet buster. Any inputs are excepted! But I will start right off by saying I'm not a huge glock fan (so let's exclude input from glock fanboys) I'd prefer non-polymer but that only leaves a few options on the table in the under $500 price point. Obviously for PPT some non-roster models can be included in this.

What is the true king of value in the semi-auto handgun market?

Under $500 non polymer is going to be very difficult to achieve with a new gun. Rock island 1911 would be my choice in that price range.

Used opens it up a little more. Maybe a beretta 92?

If you add polymer to the mix, I would say Glock even though you said not to.

Ppt of an off roster gun will be difficult with a $500 budget. A $500 off roster gun slightly used will sell for $300 or less in another state. In CA, that same gun will be $650 or more.

King of value would be Glock at your price point. I'm also not a "glock fanboy".

But I'd personally save an extra $150 and get a CZ SP01 for heavy, durable, and a great shooter.

Best value for a steel gun is going to be a Kahr K9. Hands down, you will not find someone mentioning a better, cheaper, firearm that meets your criteria. You can find them for $500 in the marketplace from time to time.
My biggest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

          Navy Seals = Glock Fanboys

Maybe you should stick to safer things, perhaps a rape whistle.

For your budget I think you'll need to go with plastic. If you don't like Glocks look at Springfield or S&W as they are priced pretty well. Springfield is offering their Gear Up package on the XD where you get three extra magazines.

I'm not a big fan of Glocks either but I do own a few and realize they are a pretty good value and are reliable and very practical. You might want to give them a second look.

You don't have many choices in that range, but if you go up a $100 the CZs are your best option.

In general, decide first on polymer vs. steel. That sets up the initial price range. Then, decide on striker vs. hammer. While it's mostly "polymer = striker" and "steel = hammer," you'll find exceptions such as most of the HK (polymer, hammer) or Kahr (steel, striker).

The 92 is certainly on my look for list, upper end of the price range but from my research looks like a great shooter. Also, seems the PX4 is a polymer but a little more weighty than the XD and M&P options

                  Add $50!
                  CZ 75 B (model 01102), CZ 75 B Compact (model 01190) are $549.

Your price point isn't realistic. There are some C&Rs you can buy for that, but I don't think that's what you want.

Rock Island 1911 is close to $600 new, but a good value.
CZ is a excellent option, but still ~$600 after dros+taxes. (That's your best option AFAIK)

I would definitely go with the CZ75 model for a all steel semi auto pistol

if you can afford $500, you can pay a little more for the CZ

the CZ isnt my favorite but if it has to be all steel then the CZ

but my personal choice would be the BERETTA M92FS but it's going to cost close to $600

If you can't afford a few extra bucks for a gun, how are you going to feed the poor thing?

Save a bit longer and get what you want, not just something to own.

Once in a while I have seen Beretta 92fs for $500-550. Rock Island 45 GI is good at $425-475. Same with Citadel 45 for $500. If you can find one: Rock Island AP9 (Tanfo/CZ clone) for $450 or so. Hi-point c9 for $150 to $175. That is all I can think of that is metal and on roster and under $500.

The Kahr k9 is like $650. If you know where to buy a NEW one for $500, please let us know.

Honestly, for a steel gun, if you can push the price up a little ($650), there are a lot more options. Beretta. Cz. Springfield 45. Kahr.

For poly, there are a lot of sub $500 guns. Springfield $459. Beretta $500. Of course Glock $500. S&W SD9VE $325.
