Anyone here missing a USP9mm?

Guy I know from work asked me if I could look at his newly aquired HK USP 9 because it wasn't working right. I asked how much he paid for it and he said $250. I'm 99% sure this gun was bought out of a trunk of a car or some crap like that. So, is anyone in the Bay Area missing one? I haven't seen the gun, nor do I want to because I'm getting a bad vibe out of it.

You could always take a look and get the serial if someone does come up missing one. Or you could delve deeper into the details and find out if it was a legal purchase or not and advise him accordingly; better to lose $250 and learn a lesson than to walk around with a felony. Besides, maybe he got it from a friend/family member who was fed up with the troubles it was having, or maybe someone just hit hard times. You'd be surprised at how much people would sell stuff for 'now' and in cash instead of waiting for it's actual value; especially if you are looking at someone in a bind/looking to score.

ETA: I hate the phrase 'looking to score'. It's so 80's cop talk but it's the easiest way to say it without going to the detail of making your audience seem like a bunch of tards.

Sounds shady to me. Although, concidentally, my usp 9mm cost me $300 (came with two mags, holster, 250 rds of ammo, hoppes cleaning kit, three gun case) and it came from my worker, too. He was going through a divorce. And it is still an awesome deal!

Honestly I wouldnt blast the guy just for getting a good deal if he admits to you that he bought it illegaly then thats a different story. But since in this case he didnt, I say you pry deeper and untill you get proof keep your mouth shut.

It's best not to entangle yourself in crap like this. If you have doubts don't touch the gun, don't offer advice. Tell him the dealer he bought the gun from could offer assistance, and watch his reaction...

How would you be liable for anything? If he says hes a felon I personally wouldnt have anything to do with him but I dont run backgrounds checks on everyone who lets me shoot/look at their guns. If you dont want to look at it for whatever reason just tell him you dont know anything about HK's or be point blank with the guy and ask him how he bought it, if it was done illegally tell him so. But the cops arent going to lock you up for looking at a stolen gun.

Maybe if the gun isn't working right the previous owner figured it's a POS and sold it for a fraction of what it should be worth. My brother bought a Glock 19 from his neighbor ( who didn't know much about firearms ) for $100. The reason was because the striker was broken, but the neighbor just ranted how Glocks are junk and he didn't want a gun that didn't work.
So for about $200 total ( initial cost, transfer fee, repair ) my brother aquired a very nice handgun. Sometimes it does happen.

Well, you just admitted on the internet that you know a FELON in possession of a stolen firearm...I'm not a lawyer but accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice pop into my mind for some reason.

The best way to stay outbof trouble is to AVOID people willing and looking to get into trouble (hint.felon in possesion of firearm = trouble).

Turn his sorry axx in. If someone was walking around with a firearm of mine that was stolen I would hope a honest citizen would turn him in.

good possibilty that the firearm won't be returned to the owner (depending on the policts of the city/county I guess) and the BG will be out in no time.
