So I remembered why it initially bothered me. I wasn't sure if a round had loaded or not so I had to check the loaded chamber indicator or open the slide.

Every time the chamber was loaded but it did require an extra step if checking since the slide racked so fast I wasn't sure.

could also be that some people consistently use the slide stop to release the slide and others pull the slide back to release the slide?

Would be good to know if that practice wears in the surfaces of the slide stop and slide stop notch and that is when people start experiencing "auto release" when the gun is smacked.

I always slingshot my slides. No renaming my slide stop to slide release for me.

I don't have XD guns but can't see this as a positive feature. I would not welcome this on my 1911's or Glock CCW weapons. If the slide does release unexpectedly it would tend to happen when the gun is not on target down field. This is not good in my opinion. When I slab a mag home to reload the gun is usually tilted to the side and angled from the target. Are you guys sure this is a good thing?

Again, in a competition setting its very advantages from a timing perspective.
Addressing the bold above, on a slide lock reload your trigger finger is indexed down the side of the pistol and no where near the bang switch. What would be considered unsafe about that?

I think the disconnect is coming from those who do not compete in the action pistol sports. However I've been wrong before and the wife says it happens a lot... her opinion of course

I've had various H&K, Glocks and M&P's all do this when you forcefully insert the mag at a certain angle.

I am equally driven bat guano crazy when I actually have to use the release to get the pistol back in action. Very frustrating when the timer is running, you are not alone pointerman!

Dr. Steyr is correct, as least for my M9-A1 and L9, same with my 75B. I do not compete, but I know it happens and the gun is pointed safely away from anything when I insert the magazine.

                  Mike, hope you're doing well.

This is considered as good luck and a godsend depending on the situation. This is why I practice using the slip stop to drop the slide vs racking. If I inherently rack then I've lost a round if the magically, good luck happens.

Why companies like S&W decided to prevent this from happening in their 2.0 line is beyond me.
