Purchase Process for Handguns

Sorry if this is posted somewhere, but I did a quick search and did not find it. I see the posts about waiting 10 days, and ffl, dros, and a bunch of other abreviations, and I am a bit confused. I assume if I go to a gun shop they will take care of everything and I will wait 10 days until I can pick it up. Where it gets really murky is if I want to buy from a online vendor or private party. I assume a shop still has to be involved, but not sure where in the process. One site seemed to say they would ship to my home. Do I then have to take it to a dealer to register it?

dont buy from that site...thats super illegal...all handguns must be shipped to a FFL where you DROS and then wait your ten days...and now you must also take a handgun safety test to even be able to buy that handgun

Almost all firearms purchases must go through a California FFL, even those purchased from private parties. DROS - Dealer's Record of Sale, mostly for handguns, IS registration.

I may have been mistaken. Same site had police trade in Glocks, and they only come with one mag, no lock. So I assume the dealer it would be shiped to would be required by law to sell me a lock before taking delivery, correct?

Yes. If the FFL charges an excessive amount like we do at The Sports Authority then you could go to WalMart and buy there DAC lock (IIRC) it's CA DOJ certified and is like..5 or 6 bucks..You mainly need the receipt (bring a copy for the FFL to keep). After you pick it up you can go back to WalMart and return the lock.
