      I will have to do photo later.

      Is any downward movement acceptable in a 1911 safety?

      Every one I have handled has had rock solid lock up in the on and off position.

          Probably an overcut opening in the frame.

          I good smith will be able to add material to the head of the thumb safety (at the rear) to tune how low the safety will travel.

          Also, Harrison Design Thumb Safety has extra material in the spot I am talking about to allow for the same tunning.

            These are factory production guns and are normal. Aftermarket, slightly oversized parts like an Ed Brown, should cure that.

                I have found it is somewhat dependent on the Thumb Safety itself;
                Some will over travel and some will not in the same frame.
                I have 2 Pistols that were remedied by using an extended Thumb safety.
                The Original GI short shelf safety over-traveled - the replacement extended safeties do not.
