    Ti Nitride on pistol barrel

    Hi all,

I am noticing that my Springfield XD9 barrel is already showing some signs of wear on the section showing in the ejection port.

Not particularly worried about it, but had been thinking about and researching Ti Nitride as a potential fix/aesthetic improvement overall.

My question is does TiN wear better than the finish (i assume anodizing) on my XD? I have read different reviews, but almost all agree that TiN is at least more durable than anodizing. Would it be worth the $40-80 i would end up paying to get the barrel done in TiN? Are there other options out there that could achieve something similar?

I love TiN coating. I have several pistols with the barrels coated and it is extremely wear resistant. One of the pistols has close to 5,000 rounds and no signs of wear. I also think it’s very aesthetically pleasing too.

Suggestions on quality applicators I could send my barrel off to?

I'm glad someone pointed out that it's meloniting, not anodizing. The process goes into the metal itself so even though the black portion is wearing off, the hardened metal is still intact. And that wear is common on Glocks too.

Think of it this way: The entire barrel is treated that way, and those bores can last for 10s of thousands of rounds. Do you really think that portion of the upper barrel gets more wear than the bore?
