SA 1911 Range Officer in 9mm

What is the SA "factory issue" recoil spring weight for their 9mm Range Officer? The recoil on mine is very soft, especially when using the less expensive 115 grain stuff - maybe they save a little $$$ by skimping on the powder. Ejection is consistently weak. No jams, consistent ejection but very uninspiring. As in I could probably catch the brass with my off hand without changing my stance. I also get an occasional slide stop failure to engage.

I'm think a pound or 2 lighter would do just right, but I'm not sure what I have now.

To know for sure call Springfield. Have the serial # handy.

The stock spring in a Range Officer 9 is a 9 pound. I measured mine when I first got it. The whimpy ejection is probably due to the mainspring. Do you still have the ILS mainspring and housing as well as the titanium firing pin? Mine lost all of that stuff and got a 19 pound mainspring. It runs much better now.

        I'm guessing 9 or 10 pounds.

Stock recoil spring is 9 lb and is not flat wire. Lots of length despite the light weight.

If you replace firing pin, main spring to a much lighter spring, and ILS housing- you can switch to a 10 or 11 lb flat recoil spring to great effect. Stock firing pin disconnect is also something that can be argued for replacement but it works just fine IMO.

There is no firing pin disconnect on a RO9.

Anything wrong with the factory firing pin?

For 115 grain factory loads I use a 12 lb Wolff variable recoil spring, 19 lb mainspring, firing pin stop with a high bevel.

If I was to shoot some 9Major loads through my RO I’d use a 16 lb recoil spring, a mainspring no less than 21 lb, a firing pin stop with a very slight bevel.

I removed all that ILS crap and replaced with EGW MSH, Ti hammer strut, Ti cap. I also use shock buffs.

Sorry, late night brain fart. Not firing pin disconnect- but the disconnector. Between Seer and trigger. Totally different I know.

Nope. Thing is made of titanium. It works just fine, but if you start monkeying with things then you end up replacing the listed items to get close to a stock series 70 1911 setup.

stock spring in 5" 9mm RO is 9 pounds. It was confirmed to me by Springfield.

Well I think I'll order a 19 lb mainspring, a 9 and 11 lb recoil spring and a stainless FP. I already have a 12 & 14 lb recoil spring. To really complicate things ..... I also shoot 38 Super out of this pistol, have a 2nd barrel I fitted recently. The gun ejected better with the 38 Super - not too much, not too little. Just right. which kind of surprises me, I'd think a 9lb spring is too light.

I picked up a SA 1911 Range Officer Elite a few weeks ago. It shoots extremely soft.
