In addition to what was said, transfer of firearms between residents of different states has to go through a FFL in the state of residence of the recipient due to Federal law.Kemasa.

It is easier to see on the 3 inch version than the 5 inch. It is a different type of threaded barrel that lives inside the slide. You can't really de-thread it, the cap has to be permanently affixed.
For the $300-350+tax+DROS, it is not worth the trouble in my opinion unless you have the ability to weld or chemically attach the nut (red loctite does not meet the definition of permanently attached last I read).
