    Phoenix Arms HP22A Worth It?

Saw this on sales at Turners

If you own this pistol, how was your experience? Good plinker? Maybe even a BUG? Also, can you feed it High Velocity ammo or just Standard Velocity? Thanks for your input.

Brother owns one and it's a heckuva lot of fun. Will start to run poorly with some ammo or when the gun gets dirty. My brother stays picky with ammo and only uses standard velocity stuff, but if I had it I would run whatever. The inner grip web will crack from use of HV, but it's a non issue and that web can be dremeled out from what I've seen. Great plinker for the price.

Speaking of price. If you absolutely have to have the barrel kit Buds has them for $175.

They have the regular version for $130.
This highly dependable Phoenix Arms HP22A Compact Pistol is small in size but gives you the devastating results you want. Comfortable in your hand, the Phoenix Arms HP22A

I have one. It’s fun for sure. I don’t remember it being ammo picky. Seemed the run fine and a good price. Haven’t taken it out in a few years though.

The round count on mine before it broke: 99

The number of times it has fired since that first range day in 1997: 0

Mine goes with me every range trip. It's a fun gun.
          I use standard velocity.

I got one for $100 on here. Owned it for 2-3 years and loved it! Always went to the range with me, and never had an issue with it. Used standard velocity as recommended by the manufacturer.. Only reason I sold it is I switched gears on my collection. I would buy another one if I saw one for $100 and I had money burning a hole in my pocket.

I have one and it's a fun little gun. IMO can't go wrong with the price. I've used standard and high velocity rounds. I try to keep to standard velocity but it has the lifetime warranty so I'm not too concerned if it fails I can have it replaced.

This weekend I had a CCW student qualify with one. After he qualified, I sent a couple of mags worth of ammo downrange and decided that I'll probably pick one up when I find a good deal on one or just can't find anything else I want and just feel the need to buy something. BTW, my student told me that he paid $129 for his new but, it was only the shorter barrel.

The manual mag lock is confusing for some. It must be locked before it will fire. Its also fun to shoot.

I would definitely recommend getting one, Like Squidbilly said I only run CCI SV or Aguila super extra SV, I noticed It runs best with the CCI SV.

Also mentioned when it gets dirty it starts getting the hiccups, I estimate after a range session of about 250-300 rounds is when it starts acting up, I just spray clean it on the spot and it's back in action till a good strip clean at home

Every person who has shot mine loves it, Also CG member Mrrabbit gave me a few tips before running it when new, find the spots where it shows signs of metal rubbing and take an emery cloth and smooth them out,Also rack the slide a bunch to help smooth out the hammer (I'm meticulous with all my stuff) It may take a few times but it is soooo much better afterwards.

It is, what it is, a cheap gun that is fun it's also pretty darn accurate with the short barrel too, All and all, I would buy it again.

I have put probably 1200 rounds through mine so far.

I had good results with mine.
Good sights, decent trigger, reliable after minor clean up inside.
Kinda heavy due to the zinc construction.
Take down and reassembly is a little odd, but OK after you figure it out and do it a few times.
I sold it only because I have been leaning out my collection.
Yes, I would buy another one.

i shot my friend's and it's actually not bad at all. Quite good accuracy and trigger.

With most things--especially with guns--you get what you pay for. With this gun, you're not paying much, so you can't expect much in the way of reliability or durability.

Easily fixed. Also I smoothed out the firing pin retaining plate where the hammer rides, makes the slide travel smoother back and forth. Great for what they are.
