    S&W Model 66 3"

I went by my LGS about a week ago and one of the guys asked if I wanted to go in the back to see what they had waiting to come out on consignment. I looked through the shelves and was just about to leave when I saw a gun rug just sticking out of the bottom shelf. Pulled it out and opened it up and there was 66-2 3"! The gun looked pretty sad though as it had some rust. But, I couldn't tell if was only surface rust or was pitted. I had to wait for the owner to give me a price so I stopped in few days later. He said he had the 66 in the ultrasonic cleaner and would give me a price once it came out, depending on the condition. Stopped by today and this is what they brought out. Looks much better than I thought it would and only has a slight hint of very light pitting. The action is smooth and tight. Price out the door was $890.

Seems to be about right, you could ask if they would take an offer on it, or wait for one in better condition, but market seems to be hot for them right now so they go quick.

You easily paid a couple hundred less than fair market. Nice score.

Seems a hundo and a half too high.

            It's a 3in. That's a big premium.

            He scored.

A friend has one and he says it's one the most accurate revolvers he has shot.

              Nice score!

I am an active shopper for S&W's and I have never even seen a M66 with a 3" barrel in person. If I had, I would have bought it on the spot.

I do have a 66-2 with a 6" barrel and the fit, finish and function is just as good as my pinned and recessed guns. Congratulations of finding a very uncommon Smith.

                  That's a Unicorn for sure - nice score! Here's a hint - don't get it Magna Ported.

Nice gun! I would have bought it at that price.

I've got a 2 1/2" M66, and that gun is a remarkable shooter. The size of the K-frame and the great trigger pull you can dial in on those guns make for a comfortable and accurate little gun. With the target sights, it can be very accurate well beyond 25 yards.

Polish up the guts, work up a few light loads in .357 brass, and that gun will reach out a lot farther than the "snubby-class" guns that a lot of folks confuse the short barreled K-frames with.
"Self defense is not a fashion show. A defensive handgun is not a little black dress, or a purse."
Remember, the overwhelming majority of anti-gun thinkers are not stupid enough to be "afraid of guns." They are afraid of stupid/immature/crazy psycho people with guns.
And as always, being friendly, courteous, and respectful is the easiest way to bend people to your will.

Find me another for that and I'd buy it in a second!

As a 66 no-dash owner, the time to buy a good example S&W is when you see it these days, even if it’s a decent example shooter grade if the price is right, which can sometimes come at a slight premium in this state.

Fortunately, the 66 I mention is the same gun I fired the most as a kid with my Granddad, but I’m always keen on consignment case offerings even when going in on the preconceived notion of purchasing a current on roster firearm.

                          Nice grab.

Nice score! A pre-lock 66 with a 3" barrel is on my grail list
