Smith and Wesson Model 28-2

Was checking out a pawn shop and they had a smith and Wesson model 28-2 4" for sale. Pistol has wear on the front at the muzzle and a big scratch near the s&w Wesson logo I'm assuming all this is from holster wear bore is good and also lock up seemed decent they wanted $599 plus taxes and fees I offered $500 cash out the door and they came back with $585 otd as I was leaving they said they would cover the dros. No pics but rest of the finish is good and has original wood grips no box no papers. I've had a few drinks and am now thinking about it. How do you guys think the price is? Condition bugs me a little but this would be a range gun anyway not a safe queen. Should I jump on it or wait for one in better shape and the goodies (box and papers)?

I think you did OK. It's a nice N Frame revolver, and might need a little TLC, but you should get much enjoyment from it. Let see some pics when you get it out of jail.

Just wanted to clarify I did not buy the gun, I walked but am thinking about going back on my next day off and picking it up. I value everyone's knowledge and input on this piece.

As long as it's mechanically sound, the minor finish issues you mentioned are no big deal.

$585 OTD is a pretty good price if it's mechanically sound & there are no big chunks of rust falling off of it. They weren't meant to be beauty queens. That's the M27's job.

i don't know of any pawn shops nearby that sells guns. probably a good thing.

Model 28's have a matte finish, so even brand new they aren't exactly beauty queens. I wouldn't worry about finish wear as long as you watch exposed steel areas for rust.

Did you try the action? If it's stock, you're in for a treat. N frames can really be slicked up because of the heavy cylinder. I had a Model 29 that was really nice, both double and single action. My friend had a Model 27 that was even better.

Now I want a 28-2. I had a 27 that was slicker than snot on a wet sidewalk. Lost it due to a divorce years ago. Would be a great plinker.

If you pass on it I would appreciate the location of the Pawn Shop.

Ask yourself if you would be disappointed/pissed if someone bought the revolver.
If yes- go get it.
If no- keep hunting for a one in a better shape.
