    Cobray M11?

Hey guys, I searched and saw some older threads regarding the Cobray M11. My dad in a free state has one and wanted to give it to me for my birthday, but I need to make sure it is no considered an AW and on the ban list. I believe it is a 1989 and doesn't list any other mfg other than Cobray. I followed the ban flow chart and it seemed clear, but I couldn't find the by-name ban list.

Hoping you guys can tell me if it's ok to do a parent to child transfer of one. Also he said if I don't like it, he wouldn't care if I got rid of it. Any thoughts on their value here? Not sure it is even worth it to bother with it as it is not really what I tend to go after.

    Thanks

    It's make/model banned. [PC 30510(b)(3)(B)]

    Cobray = SWD Industries Inc.
^SWD Industries Incorporated used Cobray as their "brand name" for marketing. Both, Cobray and SWD Incorporated are engraved on the firearms they made.

    In addition to that...
It is also a semi-auto pistol with a threaded barrel that does not have a fixed magazine, which makes it an assault weapon by features. [PC 30515(a)(4)(A)]

    In Free America...
The Cobray/SWD M-11 sells for around $300-500 depending on condition and accessories.

    Penal Code 30510
As used in this chapter and in Sections 16780, 17000, and 27555, “assault weapon” means the following designated semiautomatic firearms:
    (b) All of the following specified pistols:
    (3) The following MAC types:
    (A) RPB Industries Inc. sM10 and sM11.
    (B) SWD Incorporated M-11.
    (C) Advance Armament Inc. M-11.
    (D) Military Armament Corp. Ingram M-11.

    Penal Code 30515
    (a) Notwithstanding Section 30510, “assault weapon” also means any of the following:
    (4) A semiautomatic pistol that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following:
    (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.
    (B) A second handgrip.
    (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer’s hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.
    (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.
    (5) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

Quiet, thanks so much for the detailed info. My understanding from research is that SWD is the ban name, and name is as written, regardless of partnerships or whatever. Is that true that if it doesn't say SWD anywhere that it is not included in the by name ban, or is Cobray listed as well? Also if it doesn't have a threaded barrel, does it still count as AW? Thanks again.

You'll have to get one not banned by name and not threaded barrel. There is Mac 11 variants like that.

Just an FYI.....They have terrible trigger "Kick Back". I have a Legal California Version, and I never shoot it just for that reason. You might make it through a box of 50, but you will not be happy that you wasted the ammunition shooting it. If I had paid more than I did for it, and didn't have a bunch of magazines for it, I would be tempted to turn it in at a gun buy back. As always just my .02.

A lot of makes carry the Cobray logo including MAC, Leinad, AAI, RPB and SWD. There are also newer MPA that do not have the logo.

AAI, MAC, SWD and RPB are listed by name.

OP needs to figure out exactly what markings are on the gun in question. If it is not listed by name and does not have a threaded barrel or has a pinned/welded muzzle device - it should be good to go.

Without knowing exactly what is marked on the receiver other than 'Cobray M11', can't offer much more help.

Still badass. I remember drooling over it after seeing one on the cover of a gun mag back in 89.

Friend of mine has one. No trigger slap because it goes rat-a-tat-tat.

                      Not in CA, obv.

It has a threaded barrel. I don't think they ever made a 10 round magazine for it, so you would need to have the 30 round magazine blocked before it is shipped to California.

If your dad lives in a free state ask him to get you a Sig P320, Glock 19x, CZ Shadow 2 or something that you’ll enjoy shooting. Might as well make the best of it.

Well, today is my birthday and I officially have a P365 waiting to make it's trek south

He just already had the M11 he got in a trade and has never done anything with it, so he was just going to give it to me because he has no use or like for it.
