    Taking G23 for G43?

Is it possible to trade my G23 for a G43 legally in Ca? If so will it be almost impossible to find someone that would part with there G43? I imagine they are pretty rare since they came out after SSE/roster....

Would it be a fair swap across the board, or will one cost more than the other?

Yes it's legal if done through a Private Party Transfer. Highly doubtful that you would find someone to make that trade here in CA. In a free state it would be almost a fair trade but here a G43 gets around $800.

Thanks. I figured due to the circumstances required for someone to legally have a G43 grandfathered in there would be a gouge. In a free state would the G43 still be a bit more? I could always throw in all my mags, conversion barrel etc. (If I make it out of this state soon).

In a free state they are about the same price, G43 actually a little less than G23G4. In this state used G23G3 goes for $400, used G23G4 goes for $600, and G43 goes for $850+

And chances are slim you will find someone interested in a G23 trade + cash for a G43. But it never hurts to try - want to buy ads are free here.

Their is currently a deal going on in the marketplace forum to buy an SS80 lower and complete G43 pistol build kit for $575. $40 more and the guy will engrave the serial number for you before he ships it. Perfectly legal and cheaper then buying a factory G43 here in California via PPT. I'm ordering one. The deal closes on 4-17-18. Pistol kits start shipping 4-23-18.

Personally, unless I disliked it, I wouldn't trade a hard-to-get-in-CA G43 for a G23 which is easy to get in CA. However, money is money.

That SS80 deal linked to above sounds like a very good option!

Cool idea. But I see on that thread it can't be added to a CCW? Why not? Only interested in this for my carry gun.

In the county listed in that thread, yes. But different issuing authorities have different policies. My county is silent on the issue.

Is it a county policy that states something like "No home built guns" that I would know about if we had?

You are also looking to trade .40 for a 9 at the time when there is some lack of love for .40.

Only fools don't love the .40 S&W Most Police agencies are still using it and the only reason why anyone would change is the price of ammo. Just talked to a bunch of Ventura County Sheriffs yesterday and they all were carrying Glock 22's, or M&P .40's.

I'm so sick of the lame excuse that somehow the new 9MM ammo is more effective than .40 and .45. This is pure BS! and I don't care about your "tests."

Here's the simple reason why,,,, All the ammo companies have done the same things that made the 9MM so potent,,, to the .40 S&W and .45 ACP ammo as well! Go to any current gun mag and see the Sig Super duper defensive ammo ad. You'll notice that there are three cartridges shown in the picture. The smallest one is the 9MM the other two are .40 S&W and .45 ACP!

There are only two possible reasons why anyone would change from .40 to 9MM.

                      1. To be NATO compliant
                      2. The cost of ammunition.

Of these two only #2 matters at all because nobody in the US really cares what NATO does.

The 9MM Parabellum cartridge was rejected by the US Army in the early 1900's as too weak to reliably stop a determined attacker.

Nothing has changed. The other two rounds are simply bigger and provide more stopping power. Period

There is also some BS about Recoil? If you can shoot a 9MM you can shoot a .40 if you shoot enough to develop a decent grip. There are no shortcuts to becoming proficient with a handgun. You have to shoot to get good,,, period.

                      Therefore,,, only pansies shoot 9's!

I might add that in a pinch you might think that 9MM ammo is going to be more easily found. Well that's probably true for the first 8 hours, after that .40 S&W will be easier cuz everybody wants the 9MM stuff. Think about it.

I am waiting for Ruger to bring out the new 9MM carbine in .40 S&W, cuz I don't do 9MM !

OP it's simple three steps system,
                            (1) Sell 23
                            (2) Buy 43
                            (3) eat Ramen until (2) - (1) saving

Agreed. My go to HD pistols are the Glock 22 and 21sf. Most of my pistols are 9mm simply because 9mm costs less and I do appreciate the lighter recoil when Im just plinking. Also 9mm pistols hold their value more. I really like the .40, the caveat is I only like it in a full size pistol. I much prefer 9mm in a compact pistol. I had a Glock 23 for over a decade and now I have a Glock 22. I prefer the 22 much more than the 23. The 23 just felt way snappier than the 22. However, when I do get a Ruger PCC Im going with 9mm. Again, because of ammo cost since it will just be a range toy. As far as capacity, its really a mute point in CA since 10rds is the limit and all full size .40s can hold at least 10.

I think a lot of the .40 hate comes from people that CCW or from the industry wide trend towards CCW, since 9mm and .380 is more practical, for most people, in a compact and subcompact. But in a fullsize gun, why limit yourself with 9mm when you can go .40 or .45? If bullet manufacturers are making improvements to 9mm arent they doing the same to .40 and .45? The .40 is one hell of a hard hitting round even if it isnt a 10mm.

Depending on average skill level that is probably true. As far as practical shooting, I take the same amount of time in between shots with 9mm as with .40 because I shoot in a controlled manner. I wouldnt be magdumping as fast as I could in any SD situation because that is a sure way of missing the target with ALL your rounds. I can shoot in a controlled rapid pace with a fullsize .40 just fine, its very easy for most people to do with a little bit of practice. Im not trying to emulate a machine pistol.
