    Glock slide milling

Found a good deal on blank slides to mess around with. It seemed like a fun project just for S&Gs. It has no cocking serrations or anything, and I have a buddy with a CNC machine and mill.

I see a lot of fancy dramatic looking custom slides. Is there any reason as far as function for this, or is it all just for looks?

Is there a target weight I would want to shoot for to make it standard? It feels a lot heavier than my OEM Glock slide, presumably because it has no missing serrations or edge beveling. I'm guessing weight will effect the action/cyclic rate somehow, so what should I aim for/ what would you do if you had a blank and machinery?

You kind of answered your own question. Cutouts, extra serrations, and removing material serve to save weight or redistribute weight for balance or for compensated barrels or additional grip area for ammo checks.

What effects will a lighter slide have on the weapon cycling? Is there a target weight for it to function properly like an OEM slide?

I don't know of a target weight. Depending on ammo (handloaded vs factory) or if there's a compensator coupled with the lighter slide, a lighter recoil spring may be necessary. My Alpha Shooting Sports slide came with both a 14lb and 17lb spring with the 17lb spring more suitable for factory ammo.
