PSA: be careful with what solution you use to clean slides and barrels in your sonic cleaner. i used hot water and vinegar (3:1) with some dish soap and planned on using baking soda to neutralize the vinegar in a separate cycle. didnt think much of it but after a few mins the water was pitch black. i was like oh wow, thats a lot of carbon and powder it took off. well, it took that off and the factory finish. ouch! i did the baking soda cycle and rinsed it off with more water. immediately it started to develop a little surface rust. now i busted out all the solvents and oil and got to work. i manage to get the rusting to stop and for safe measure oiled the crap out of it. i always wanted to get my DE in two-tone but this isnt what i had in mind. guess its an excuse to go out and get the finish ive always wanted. any shops you guys can recommend that does custom work like that would that wont break the bank would be greatly appreciated.
