If going with MOS, consider a 17 or 19 instead. Longer sight radius isn't really needed with an rds.

you aren't getting a gen 4 or 5 in CA unless you are roster exempt, or get one through a ppt from someone that is...... and pay 2-3x msrp...

I have shot a 34 gen 3, it was ok, also shot an m9.... just picked up a springfield xd9

glocks do have a weird grip angle
"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet

Get a gen 3 and use the money that you would have spent on the gen 5 to have the grip worked on. Remove those finger grooves unless you like them.

If you must get a 4 or 5 get the 5. It actually has things done to make it different.
And no you are not paying 2x or 3x more. The gen 5's are selling for $900 on cg. People might ask more but they ARE NOT GETTING IT. Also, 1k is not 2x more. It's more like 300 more. Especially when you consider that you aren't paying tax.
Keep in mind that this isnt for a mos. That will cost more, but still not 2x more than msrp.
Now you might pay 2x more than the original cost if you happen to get a blue label glock. But that doesn't matter. Just because a cop paid less for the gun doesn't mean that he shouldn't charge going rate.

I am not a glock fan boy although i do have a few. I am an hk fanboy if anything.
I hear people complain about grip angle. Adapt. I would hate to be the type of person who can't adapt to different things.

Trust me. I have done the research. I was in the exact same position as you a few months ago. I went with the gen 3 34.
Although i would still like a gen 5 17. But i have a gen 2 17 and the 2 guns are basically the same.
Although i did an upgrade to make all my Glocks gen 5. I changed the follower to the orange one. Yes, that's a joke.

I am roster exempt. I already have a gen5 19. Just haven’t had the chance to shoot a gen4 or 5 34 yet to make up my mind. They are running around 569-600 with the MOS blue label cost.

I've got a G34Gen3, G34Gen4, and a G17Gen5. I've got no MOS versions of any guns. (I'm still trying to decide on a red-dot or holographic sight for a rifle.)

I'm not overly trigger sensitive and don't notice either trigger feeling better or worse. With minus connectors, the Gen3 is at ~4.5 pounds; the Gen4 at ~5.0 pounds; and the "dot" connector on the Gen5 is ~5.0 to ~5.4 pounds.

I've got ~11K rounds through the G34Gen4 and ~7K rounds through the G17Gen5. Both guns have been reliable. However, right now, parts are easier to find for the Gen4 Glocks, harder to find for the Gen5 Glocks, should you need anything. I suspect that will change for the better as time goes on.

I like the idea of a factory machined MOS slide as it takes any risk out should a person go with contracting a company to modify an existing slide.

A small risk for Californians is if a Gen4 or Gen5 Glock frame should need replacement, Glock won't be able to ship a new frame to the customer, unless the customer is exempt from the roster. Again, not much of a risk as 9mm Glock frames seldom go bad.

Those are my thoughts. Let us know how it goes.

              I thought i smelled bacon, jk [emoji6].
I like most of the upgrades done to the gen5. The only one that concerns me is the structural whatever due to the 2 pin frame.
I Have read, but don't know if its true, that the 3 pin frame/ design is stronger. And that glock was experiencing guns breaking in the non 9mm calibers with the 2 pin design.
This was also the reasoning why glock is only making gen5 in 9mm. I have no idea if this is true. If so, it tells me that a gen 3,4 frame is stronger.
Thats the only reason why i wouldn't consider a gen5.
              That being said, i want a gen5 17.

Whichever is cheapest because they are all basically the same.

Spend your money and get a Canik TP9 SFX or Walther Q5 Match if you want something nicer.

Haha. Half the reason I became a Leo was for the gun perks. I’m leaning toward the gen 4. Plus they look good with the slide top cut out. I’m going to fondle both of them when the shop gets the gen5 I. And I’ll make my final decision.
                  Thanks for the input everyone

Good choice. I've had Gen 3 & 4 34's but sold them. I wanted to try an optic so when GLOCK released the Gen 5 34 MOS I bought one. It's a good shooter. I just put a cheap optic (Fastfire) on it and it's a lot of fun to shoot.

Two differences between this and the past generations is the closed slide. Also my old 34's, were Blue Label guns and came with fixed sights and 5.5 pound triggers. With this Gen 5, (also a Blue Label) I had a choce of the 5.5 or 4.5 pound trigger. I selected the latter since it's only going to be a range toy.

                      Enjoy your new pistol.

I have a fastfire3 that I’ve been using on my scout rifle. Interested lanes to throw that on the 34 for a while until I decide to get a rmr. Can’t wait to shoot that baby!

I was in the market and asked the same question a few months ago. The only reason to get a Gen 4 Gen 5 would be for the Ambi mag release. If you don't need that, then go with the Gen 3 and use the money you save to get a stipple job.

                            Gen3. Save money on ammo/classes/training.

After renting a Gen 3 several times, I decided to pick up a Gen 5. I wanted the option of running the optic some day. While both are really nice guns, the most noticeable difference on the Gen 5 is the grip. The texture on the grip feels great.
