Will the gen 5 glock magazines fit into a gen 3 Glock?

yes, the only difference is an additional cut out for the ambi release
    while (bullets > 0 && target == 1){fire == 1;}

Gen4 mags have these as well?, or the one's I have do.

Assuming they are gen4 based on the ambi cut outs and a black follower.

Yep. Gen4 and 5 are ambi, Gen5 introduces the orange follower.

While I'm sure that other more subtle improvements have been made, they're all virtually (not 100%, e.g. the ambi-release) interchangeable with each other.

Gen 5 mags will not work in G19X unless you remove the Gen 5 baseplate. Go figure...

Glock magazine generation compatibility is dependent on the type of magazine release on the Glock.

Glocks with the standard magazine release can use 1st-5th gen Glock magazines.

Glocks with the ambi-magazine release can only use the 3rd-4th gen Glock magazines.

Glocks with the reversable magazine release set up on the standard side can use 1st-5th gen Glock magazines.

Glocks with the reversable magazine release set up on the non-standard side can only use 4th-5th gen Glock magazines.

Summary of the simplified version of Glock magazine generations...
1st gen = NFML w/ standard mag cut
2nd gen = FML w/ standard mag cut
              3rd gen = FML w/ standard mag cut & ambi-mag cut
4th gen = FML w/ standard mag cut & ambi-mag cut & reversable mag cut
5th gen = FML w/ standard mag cut & reversable mag cut

Only notable difference on the Gen 5 is he orange follower as somebody else already mentioned and the different baseplate. The body itself can accept the normal base plates found on the Gen 2-4 mags. Follower can also be replaced with any of the Gen 2-4 followers.

Gen 5 Glock 19 mags will fit in a Gen 3 Glock 19. I do not know about any other model.

The X-Grip spacer will not fit a Gen 5 magazine. I cannot get my X-Grip spacer to seat on my Gen 5 Glock 19 mags to use in my Glock 26. The base plate is a different size.

Dang! This is the 1st Glock post/issue that sounds confusing.

All my...all my former...Glock pre boating accident stuff was Gen 3. So I suppose I needn't worry too much about Gen 4. and 5s. And 6s. And 7s, 8s, ...13 dash this, yada yada yada.
