    .460 Rowland conversion for 1911

I'm interested in a 460 Rowland conversion for my 1911 but I don't know what to do about the threaded barrel situation. I think welding/brazing would be risky because it might mess with the heat treatment of the barrel; not something I'd like to do since 460 really pushes the limits of such a thin barrel. Pinning the comp would be difficult for the same reason.

I know at least a few of you guys out there own STI/SVI race guns with compensators, so what's the deal with the threaded barrels? Do you have the comps permanently attached or what?

Others have posted her that Clark's will permanently attach the compensator to the barrel for you if you ask them. Barring that, you can always use red locktite. It was good enough for the P22, should be good enough for you

I'm not too familiar with the circumstances surrounding the P22, but are you sure that loctite is legally acceptable for this purpose? I was under the impression that we needed to follow ATF specifications for barrel attachment permanence.

The P22 repair was to replace the slotted nut with a round nut and use red loctite. Red is conisdered permenant, they only way to remove it is to risk permanent damage to the barrel.

If you were to call and ask the nice people at Clark's, I'm sure they'd be happy to permanently attach the compensator.

That's what they did to mine. See the latest post in another thread on this subject.
