Which 9mm 1911 would you get?

I have a chance to pick up a 1911 in 9mm. I will not be competing. This will be a range toy. I know there are lots of nice 1911's in 9mm but I am only asking about the STI Lawman 4.0 or Dan Wesson Silverback.

Please do not post other 1911's like Wilson Combat or just get a Springfield Loaded or Kimber. I only would like your opinions between the STI or Dan Wesson. If you don't know anything about these 2 firearms, which would you choose based on looks. And no, I am not going to buy both. Thanks.

The DW has a flared magwell and rough-texture mag release.

I prefer the aesthetics of the Novak-style adjustable sight on the STI.


But do you have a preference in the barrel length? Those 2 options you listed kinda have different rolls due to the sight radius and size, though that might not bother you at the range.

I wish I was roster exempt.

I don't want to own more than one 1911 in 9mm and I've always read that Dan Wesson makes some nice ones that are almost the same quality as the semi-custom ones. That's why I was also leaning towards the DW. And this is the only model that DW makes in two tone.

I just purchased a DW Guardian in 9MM. LOVE IT! I am very impressed. First range trip I cycled 300 rounds of various hard ball with no issues. That was with the factory mags too. Very fun to shoot and fit/finish is top notch.

I like my DW 9mm Specialist. I’ve also had a .38 Super barrel fitted. Never a FTF or fte with either barrel.
