    1911 grips

The last few weekends, I decided to blend two of my hobbies together and make a few sets of 1911 grips with Walnut, Cherry and Purple Heart. The Walnut is my favorite but the Purple Heart is the most unique. The most challenging part was the drill holes that are three different sizes using a drill press without a track. Thank goodness transfer punches.

Honestly I thought a homemade? Job would be worse. These are very nice and look store purchased. Cherry ones on the bottom are nice!
I myself am in the market for some comedian grips now that I got back into the doomsday clock.

Great looking grips! I've been wanting to do the same but haven't got around to it. I have quite a bit of black walnut but really looking forward to using some of the ironwood slabs I've been saving for over 30 years!

Nice grips! Off topic but how is that rear sight compared to the original if you are using the stock front sight?

All the wood had already been dried and had less than 5% moisture so I didn't bother adding stabilizing compounds. I sanded them down and finished them off by coating them with Tru-Oil. I believe its B&Cs blend of boiled linseed oil. Not too worry about any sort of expansion or contraction on grips.

The Harrison rear sight is a huge improvement over the stock Novaks. I went straight to a Dawson FS and Harrison rear so I can't comment on the FS too much. I pulled them both off at the same time.

Once you start you won't be able to stop...

Then you get into checkering too...

Then you really go off the deep end... Not my pic but resembles the set I got.
