    Springfield TRP problem

Hey everyone, had a good and bad day at the range.
Good: I love my XD Tactical .40, more accurate than I had hoped and a really fun gun to shoot!

Bad: My springfield TRP had a hiccup thats been bothering me. I use wilson combat ETMS and I had just fired the 7th round. The 8th round chambered, pulled the trigger, nothing. Waited 30 seconds in case of a delayed shot, and then pulled back the slide. When I pulled the slide back and locked it, the round was still chambered, and the extractor had not pulled it out. I had to put a pen in the barrel and nudge it out (without ever getting my hand in front of the barrel!). It's as if the round was put into the chamber, but the extractor had not caught it on the way in. It has never happened to my Springfield, or any other gun I have owned/shot. My extractor was pretty clean, it was only the first 40 rounds or so. any advice I plan to send it back to springfield just to be sure, and have them look at the extractor.
The "best" handgun caliber debate rages on, meanwhile I just keep buying low recoil 00 buck.

Did you try cycling/firing it with ammo after it wouldn't shoot? That would rule out the bad round theory.

I don't want to sound condescending (because I'm not looking down), but if he knew how to check that and use that to his advantage, I bet he already would have and wouldn't be asking a question (by the way, I don't know how either).

True, if it was correctly adjusted it would lead us somewhere else to look into.

One thing I learned about trouble shooting was to look at the most obvious answers first and go one by one to see if it fixes the issue. I had a similiar issue regarding last the last round wedging itself into the magazine lips. It fed and ejected all the other rounds fine, the extractor needed some more tension.

Try a different magazine. Some folks do not have good luck with the 8 rounders.

My TRP operator works fine with the earlier Wilson 8 rounders, never tried their new ones yet. If everythign works except the last round, I would suspect the mag.

I use Wilson 47D's. Never any issues. It is most likely the mag you're using...

I'm currently using Wilson Combat ETMS and have only just recently had the problem. I'll check out my mags and see if theres anything wrong with em.

So if the hammer fell, the extractor had to be seated in the case rim. Try putting a spent shell in the chamber and ease the slide down on the case. The hammer should not fall because it would be too far out of battery. Try that and get back to us.
