Sig p226 .40

Right now they are on budsgunshop (the nitron b-ca, not the bss-ca) for about half the price of the 9mm 226, any reason why they are so cheap? Does this have the loaded chamber indicator or the cannot fire without a mag feature? I cant find any info on sigs website...

.40 is not as popular these days with law enforcement moving to 9mm.

Good price even with CA taxes and FFL fees. Depends if you're willing to deal with the LCI. People have bypassed the mag disconnect.

You can always get a 9mm conversion barrel for the .40.

Get a 357 Sig barrel and have more fun. Both the 40 and the .357 Sig are tamed by the Sig.

If the part number does not match "P226R 226R-40-BSS-CA", you won't be able to DROS it.

That might be the old, pre LCI rostered P226 before Sig let it fall off the roster.

Yup, I like the .357 Sig a lot better than the .40SW. The only reason I got the .40 SW barrel was a thought that ammo would stay cheap because of all the agencies using it. I was wrong, obviously, and started to reload on top of it.

The market is saying no one wants them.. hence the low price to move em out, probably near cost, to free up the capital for inventory that will turn faster.

The two models are not the same. Looking at the pictures of the two, the B-CA one for sale at Bud's and the BSS-CA model for sale at Tombstone Tactical, I see two differences. Bud's has a thicker trigger and the short (older) ejector.

Some of the answers "from the community" at Bud's vary on whether or not it can be sold to a CA resident. I would tread lightly before buying it and talk with the FFL who will handle the transfer. Also confirm with Bud's that it is on the roster and get that person's name and see if they will put it in an email. Remember, CA legal does not mean it is on the roster.

Maybe, however FFL's DO make mistakes. As I've stated before, if the part number does not match what's on the roster, you assume the risk.

I've witnessed 2 cases where DOJ came back and stated the DROS was incorrect and the firearm was illegal. The FFL either had to contact the buyer to return the firearm for a refund or DOJ would go confiscate without recourse.

Three things happened:

1) The FBI decided to switch to the 9mm from the 40 S&W a couple of years back, and different guns. They said that they could see no benefit from the more powerful round and that it was more difficult to shoot well for their agents.

2) When Glock introduced the G22 and 23 they, for years, they used the same recoil spring for the 40 as they did for the 9mm. The results of shooting a more powerful round with a heavier bullet were predictable. Law Enforcement agencies across the country complained of the guns not holding up and shorter life for the guns in 40 S&W than the guns in 9mm.

3) The price of 9mm commercial ammo declined relative to 40 S&W.

Just talked to my local LGS and they said that the DROS system will accept the 226R-40-B-CA "with or without night sights".
