Laser for dryfire??

Recommendations for laser to practice dry firing?? I have a couple Laserlyte targets that I use with a SIRT pistol but I would like to use a drop in laser for my actual handgun. Looking to buy something of quality and not junk on Ebay. I have a Southwest Shooting Authority resettable trigger on my Glock 19.

Laser Ammo.

I prefer cartridges that fit into the chamber as opposed to the devices that fit at the end of the barrel as you can holster the gun normally and it doesn't affect your draw.

Tip: use hearing aid batteries as replacement batteries. Much cheaper. Look at Amazon.

I use the laserlyte system. There are a couple of caveats.

1. It's expensive. A cartridge and a target will set you back nearly $450. Why the target - you want something that remembers where you hit, you don't want to focus on the target to see where the laser hits, you want to focus on the front sight.

2. It works indoors, not outdoors.

3. The chamber cartridge need to be removed with a stick or something similar from the muzzle end, it has no rim for the extractor to grab. And while that may be a small problem it does eliminate the possibility of loading live ammo once that cartridge is in place.

4. The chamber cartridge acts as snap cap. The one that goes into the muzzle does not. I have cartridges for pistols, the one that goes into the muzzle I use for revolvers. I use snap caps in the revolver while using the muzzle ended laser.

With all that said do I recommend it, whole heartedly. When drawing and firing from a holster I get a truthful knowledge of where I hit as opposed to where I thought I hit. If I am moving the muzzle while pressing the trigger, the laser lets me know.

One thing I did as far as target is concerned. I put a reflective dot at the center of a couple of different paper targets. While still concentrating on the front sight, if I hit that reflective dot it flashes brightly enough that I notice it while still concentrating on the front sight. I use the previous model of the laserlyte target system which was less expensive

The portion of the chamber cartridge that has the actuator for the strikes is something that can be replaced and I have done so on my 9mm cartridge, I use that more than the 45 acp and 380 cartridge that I also own.

I've read that too, but this is one area where nearsightedness is a blessing. I can't focus on the target past 7 yards anyway. So I focus at the front sight, or see nothing at all.

I use L.A.S.R program or shoot at Laserlyte targets. You see your hits AFTER shooting. Telling someone they should not use this because they "MIGHT" look at the laser is nonsense. TRAIN RIGHT

Some systems, like my Laser Ammo, uses these 2" x 1.5" reflective targets you tape or hang on the wall. When the beam hits, it reflects brightly, whereas the wall doesn't reflect anywhere near as bright. The low end Laserlyte system has these 4"x4" sensors that lights up and beeps when the beam hits inside the circular target in the middle. When you put these 7 to 10 yards away, your eyes don't really have to focus on the target for you to know you've hit. In fact, with reflective targets, there is really no time for your eyes to change the focus from the front sight to the target (especially in my case, I can't anyway lol)

Both companies make more elaborate systems that show where you've hit, like what Old4Eyes described, some make these pretend soda cans, IDPA-like falling targets or bowling pins that tip when the laser hits, etc. but to me that is more for parties than real training.

I missed the laser target in the OP and hence recommended not to use the laser for dry firing. My bad.
