    Taurus Model 66

Saw one of these at the Modesto gun show this weekend offered by a local dealer at just $420ish.

Still I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on the Taurus? Is the GP100 or a Model 686 worth the difference?
    1. Compared to what?
    2. At what cost?
    3. What hard evidence do you have?

I have owned and sold 3 taurus revolvers. I would say pay more for a ruger or smith.

You have to buy two Taurus revolvers at a time, so there is a good chance you have a working one while the other is back in the shop.

Add to that crappy customer service when it does break.

Taurus customer service is their biggest issue. From what I've read, they make decent revolvers and not so decent semi-autos.

Actually I have firsthand experience with getting my Taurus revolver fixed, and my Dan Wesson 1911. Let me tell you, both were honest manufacturing defects. The Taurus cylinder would lock up and not rotate. The CBOB had the feed ramp straight milled wrong and cut into the side of the frame, failed to lock back after last round, and a few other defects.
Absolutely the best service and repairs, no BS, fixed it and paid to send it back to me award goes to Taurus. 6 weeks or whatever and it was back and hasn't missed a beat. For life they'll service it, too.
In comparison, my Dan Wesson experience sucked. They didn't own up to the frame defects, lied to me about the cause being "a cast frame" vs what it really was, a machining mistake. They fixed one of the small problems, a loose trigger, but they absolutely didn't get the last round hold open to work (I did, their slide stops aren't made to spec, had to go aftermarket) I was charged for repairs and return freight since i was just barely past their 5 year warranty, even though the problems were obviously there since day 1.
So IMHO I would say that ya, the quality/ fit and finish of S&W and Ruger are a step up, in keeping with the price jump. But don't discount the value of a Taurus or their product support. If you're on a budget, I wouldn't hesitate to get a Taurus. And if it does need some help, they'll take care of it.
But if I needed one to absolutely work out of the box, with no down time, and price doesn't matter, then ya, the others would be worth considering first.
