    gun shops and display models

was wondering if all dealers new guns that are in the display counter are just that, and you get a NIB from the back? or just depends on the dealer? they sell you what is on desply. was just thinking that if i buy a new gun i want it untouched by others. you know how many hands those guns go through. almost like your getting a used gun, except for the barrel.

Truly depends on the item and dealer.

They will usually give you what's in stock. If they only have one then you'll get the display, if they have a few of them then you'll get one out of the back. I usually ask because I am not a fan of the displays since people are always dry firing them and doing weird things with them.
      Insert something clever here.

My experience is that you usually get a NIB gun in the back unless they don't have any in stock in which case you would have the option of taking the display model.

For us, normally what is in the shelf is what you get. We don't have the capital to keep a large supply of stock. On a positive note, our guns don't spend much time on the shelf because they sell rather quickly. And as of late, we're selling guns before they even touch the shelf. People see us bringing in guns that we just received from a distributor and they want to buy it before we can even log the gun into our books. But again it will depend on the dealer and how easily they can buy large quantities of firearms to keep in stock.

I bought a Colt at the gun show and they gave me the same gun 10 days later.

            I ask now!

Some dealers won't sell the display model.

and, other dealers display everything they stock. It just depends on what type of shop you go into.

Nothing wrong with dry firing, unless it's a 22.

Who in their right mind would buy a gun without dry firing it first?

Ive seen both. where the dealer sells what he has on display and/or gives you a new one from the back and the display is the display. Personally if I buy a display I definately ask for a discount. 99% of the time I get it. if they dont I ask for a new gun. if they say what you see is what you get and they wont discount it then i dont buy. I dont care abotu buying a "used" display gun. Its a freaking gun how used can it be really? Other than that my purchase hinges MORE on the attitude of the salesman or the shop as a whole.
To me getting a bargain is just that getting a bargain and i personally like to haggle. if I cant get a bargain I pay asking price if I want it bad enough. But I usually can find a bargain 99% if the time

^ I agree if I ever bought a display it would have to be at a discount.

The only analogy(probably a poor one) I can give is electronics....an "open-box" buy or display model is almost always going to be at a pretty deep discount.

my xd was a display model but they had just received them the same day and no discount($540). It came out to 606 out the door with DRO's. 2 weeks later i found the same gun for 485. ouch!

It really makes no difference to me. Heck, sometimes the display model is nicer than what might be in stock. Also, if a gun is in any way damaged from being dry fired (which is a myth of epic proportions) the darned thing is not worth having anyway.

I wanted to buy a GSG rifle on display from the Martin B. Retting, and they said they won't sell it.
