    Glock 17 3rd Gen

    Hi All,

Long story short, after having the shot the Glock 17, 4th Gen. and having a lot fun, I decided I wanted one.

I started doing the research and realized because I live in Calif. it was not going to happen. Disappointing to say the least, but I digress, I'll do what I can while I live here and vote, until I am able to move out of state.

So... just getting into Glocks (have only owned a few handguns and mainly been a Long Rifle bolt action person) I am just learning and doing searches on the forum. I just burnt up two hours in what seemed like 10 mins. That said I started thinking, maybe a 3rd Gen would be easier? My father lives out of state and guns laws are not absurd like they're in Calif.

Question: If my father buys a Glock 17, 3rd Gen. in Montana, Idaho (he's a resident) can he gift transfer the 3rd Gen. to me without having to dumb it way down?

I'm researching online but posting in the forum is always a helpful method to compliment my research efforts, so here I am and I appreciate any feedback. Am thinking someone will be able to easily explain that is well versed or can point me in the right direction so that I can further my research efforts on what options I have, or in short, knows if it's even worth it?

    Thanks,
    M

Check the market place here, also check armslists. Buy one used and don't pay over 500$. You can buy a gen 3 here in CA.

Your father can gift you a Gen 4 or Gen 5 glock. If you want a Gen 3, just go buy one locally.

If you go Gen 4 or 5, it will just need 10 rd mags and an FFL that understands the process.

Your dad can gift you all sorts of good stuff since he's out of state. You still need 10 round magazines though.

The RTF2 is still on the roster. It's one of the best grip textures, I dare say, in the entire industry.

If I had a friend / relative that would sell me a Gen 4 or Gen 5 from out of state

I would take advantage of the situation and get the one I really want

Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I was going to post the same thing.

Join GSSF for 2 years ($60?) Get two discount coupons, each coupon (they show up a YEAR apart, wiht the first one right away upon joining) which allows you to buy a Gen 3 Glock 17 for $425. (so plus the 60 bucks is $485 if you only buy one, or $450 each if you buy two, a year apart).

Gen 3 Glock 17 is for practical purposes, one of the most reliable 9mms you can buy. We should be thankful that we can still buy them on roster in CA.

btw, your Dad (out of state) could also join the GSSF and get you the gen 4 Glocks if you really wanted them, for the same price ($425).

If you have to buy in CA, then I think the Gen 4s don't offer more than the gen 3s for the price premium demanded (ie; not worth it). I have the gen 4 Glock 17 and 34, bought during the SSE days. And I'd say I don't think they offer anything that the Gen3 doesn't provide. Event he grip size thing is not much of a bonus.

I'm entertained by your response, so I'll just ask the question being two days into researching my options."

                            Looking at this list:

I see the G34 so would I be able to have that Interfamily Transferred? I mean if I put the 10/33 Magazine, which I'm perfectly happy doing, I might as well go for the 34 (which I'd personally prefer over the G17 Gen 4), if I can have my father work with an FFL's on both the Idaho and Calif. side

Otherwise, I'll stick with my original Plan and go for the Gen 4. I should have mentioned that I'm looking at the MOS feature, hence the Gen 4.

                            Thanks,
                            M
