Glock 23 to 9mm conversion problem solving

I have a Gen4 Glock 23 with a RMR that I can't get to eject/feed reliably. The barrel is a hand fitted Bar-sto conversion barrel with factory style (C style) compensator ports. The slide has been milled for the ports as well. Aside from sights and milling, all other upper parts are stock G23. The ejector is also stock G23. I know in all stock configuration the conversion is supposed to work. However, what I am experiencing is the slide does not appear to have enough energy to cycle backward fully to extract the spent 9mm casing. The spent cases are usually caught in the ejection port, standing straight up. The ammunition is remanufactured 115gr. I've thought of trying lighter recoil spring (Gen 3 + adapter). But, that likely wouldn't have enough energy to send slide back forward fully. Should I be using heavier and/or hotter 9mm?

Yes, heavier bullet weight, +P ammunition and or lighter recoil spring.
Running factory ammunition will probably fix the issue as remanufactured ammo tends to be on the weak side.

I would try shooting some factory 124grain NATO ammo as it tends to be a little hotter before changing any parts.

Here are a few brands of ammo I would recommend trying if you can find it locally now.

Definitely need Nato 124 or hotter ammo. You have an RMR weighing down your slide and you mention its ported so some of that energy is leaving your barrel early.

Have you try a stock gen 4 glock 19 recoil spring? If that is still too heavy then leave the gun with the new recoil spring in the cocked position and let the spring settle.

I recently converted a Gen 4 23 to a 19 with conversion barrel and changed the recoil spring as well. I havent had a chance to shoot it yet so no report of the reliability to report.

I would try different brands of non-reman ammo rather than going with +p. Some are just hotter than others. People can provide suggestions.

Let me guess freedom munitions reman? If so my buddy had that and it was barley ejecting out of a newish stock G17. Stuff seemed so weak

Go back to a stock gun. All those modifications are stupid anyway.

                  ejection issue

Replace the 1882 ejector with a 336 ejector. Simply remove the trigger housing from the frame and the ejector is removed with a pair of needle nose pliers. Then press the new 336 ejector back into the trigger housing, reinstall the trigger into the frame and your ejection issues are over...

you can get a 336 ejector anywhere..I just so happened to have a spare trigger housing on hand.

Had the same issue when I installed a 9mm conversion barrel into my 23.

                  Problem solved....100%

                    ejection issue

I just checked....the Glockstore sells the trigger housing for $9.99. Get the one for a Gen4 Glock19... It'll fit....

                    It'll work....trust me.

Its probably a combination of the porting, the rmr, and maybe weak reloads. Ported guns tend to not like light loads. I believe some federal 115 gr ammo is labeled "not for ported guns" or something to that effect for that very reason. Then add the rmr weight on top of that...

My understanding is running 100+ 124gr and/or +p through it first helps. Otherwise 124gr is > 115 for conversion

                          I know it’s not a G23, but last year I converted my Gen 4 G22 from 40 to 9mm. I swapped the following parts:

9mm extractor (came free with my S3F conversion barrel)
                          Spring Loaded Bearing 9mm SP02714
                          Gen 4 9mm Trigger Housing w/ ejector SP30275

At this point it’s pretty much a Gen 4 G17.

I’m about 1500 rounds in and no feeding or ejection issues.

                          Hopefully that helps.

Edit: My initial attempt at an answer started to get convoluted so maybe I can simplify. The difference between the gen4 23 and 19 are:

-Barrel and opening in front of slide.
                            -Extractor and spring loaded bearing.
                            -Recoil spring.
-Ejector housing with proper ejector attached.

In short you want your conversion barrel, 043 recoil spring, a 30274 ejector, 1895 extractor, and 2714 spring loaded bearing to turn your g23 into a g19.
