I messed up - Shield 9mm

So I disassembled my Sheild 9mm (CA version). I have done it many times in the past to clean it, so I know how to put it back together.

Stupid thing I did was put the slide back on without the recoil spring and barrel, was just trying to find out something. Anyways, I racked the slide all the way back, and now it won't go forward - so I can't take the slide off (to put it back together).

Any ideas?

Upside down. Make sure it goes into battery, turn the release lever down as usual and slide it off. Don't forget the lever inside the mag well to take down so you don't have to pull the trigger.

Did you find out that "something" you were looking for? Should be able to push the slide back and depress the tab down in the grip thru the ejection port. This is all in theory of course.

When this happens on a Glock, you remove the end plate off the slide and pull out the striker mechanism. Not sure if the Shield uses a similar remedy.

The Breech lock is more likely the problem without the recoil spring. But turning it upside down will allow gravity to keep the breech lock from jamming into the take down lever.
