My favorite revolver is the S&W 625 PC. If you like 45acp in a revolver...this is it!

Try to shoot those calibers before committing to anything. All of those could be range toys. Do you have anything more specific that you are trying to do?

If you reload, any caliber is OK.
If you buy Ammo, do not go 460 or 500

I have A Ruger Alaskan in 44 mag sweet Gun
Also have a Smith and Wesson 500 mag 4 inch with the Comp and it's a sweet shooter too .
Both go bang and both are fun as hell to shoot . Throw some 700 grain rds in 500mag will really get everyone's attention .

Doesn't have the stupid internal lock like the Smith & Wessons.
If willing to go used there is prelock examples that pop up.

i hunt with a 44 mag, but shoot 357 mag/38 for fun as well as home defense. redhawk,gp100s and gp100 match champion, smith 627 pc, 586 and 686 are part of my small collection.

I'm a S&W fan - I own a couple dozen of their revolvers. As much as it pains me to say, if I were buying a new range toy in .44 mag it would be a Ruger Super Redhawk in my preferred barrel length. The are just so much stronger than the Smiths, and as an added bonus they are missing the IL hole that lets a revolver's soul leak out. Not that S&W makes a bad gun - I love them - but I prefer the old pinned and recessed variety.

A lot of the Rugers come with integral mounts and rings so adding an appropriate scope is a breeze. If you want to fire a lot of full-house rounds go Ruger.

500 Magnum. A fun gun to play around with at the range but too much gun for home defense unless the suspect is a T-Rex.

If you still want a Magnum to shoot and use as a home defense gun, you can always go with a 44 magnum and use Hornady Critical Defense Ammunition chambered in 44 Special for HD.
I have a Ruger Alaskan that I use these in.

Will it see any shower time? If not, definitely something with wood furniture in .44

All my revolvers are safe queen classics, except the one I shoot: 686 Competitor
