    Smith & Wesson 422 Legality

Is the Smith & Wesson 422 legal here in CA? I know it is not on the CA roster of approved handguns but if someone wanted to ppt one would it be legal? My concern is the barrel being threaded with the barrel nut. Would this be considered a threaded barrel in CA thus making it an assault weapon?

Better answers coming, but is the barrel nut welded or otherwise "permanently" attached?

I'm referring to one in it's original condition and not altered.

I've never seen a 422 with a threaded barrel. If your talking about the barrel threading on to the receiver, I don't think that would qualify as a threaded barrel, since it is not capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward grip or suppressor, (code says silencer).

That is a good question, never though of that.

The threading is to hold the barrel in place. The threads are internal, and do not extend in a way that would allow you to attach a silencer.

            I’ve had a 422 since about 1994, and I still shoot it frequently. It’s a fun, accurate 22.

There is a modified nut you can buy that adds a threaded barrel extension for a suppressor - stay away from those.
