    Single Action Exemption

Can anyone point me to an SF area FFL willing to do a SAE, or willing to do it then ship to an SF area gun store? The revolver in question is a Korth. The seller is willing to ship to CA, they're not willing to do the SA modification, that would have to be done by the CA FFL.

I'd prefer someone who advertises on Calguns, looked in Marketplace and didn't find.

Tall order as doing a SAE on a S&W is fairly straightforward and well known I'd be terrified of having someone monkeying around with the innards of a Korth.

Making a 1911 into a bolt action is pretty easy, the kit is not that expensive. I don't know what a Korth is, but I assume similar.

A very expensive, and precise German imported one at that. While not overly complicated, I would cringe at the thought of some pipe-wrench monkey messing with something he has likely never even heard of.

Another option is to have a DA revolver sent to an out of state dealer/smith, who would do the SA conversion before sending it to your friendly local FFL. But again, I don't know who I'd trust to do that with a Korth. I'd ask forum member audiophil2, if he doesn't want to work on it he might be able to recommend someone.

I try not to criticize a lack of basic firearms knowledge from someone who's brand new to firearms, but with almost 5,000 posts. ...

SAE by law only exists, and has ever only existed, for revolvers. That's besides the fact that a 1911 is the very definition of a single action pistol, other than a few aberrations like the Para LDA jobbies. I don't think a Colt Double Eagle was ever considered a 1911.

Making a 1911 into a bolt action is no longer an option to avoid the roster. A handgun has to be a bolt or break action from the time the keel was laid, so to speak. Converting existing designs has dun bin outlawed.

Check with Tracy Rifle and Pistol. If I recall correctly I believe they SAE'd a Korth a few months ago?

                    Ask Rob Blank:

I think he does SAE conversions, but you should ask him.

I did a $7-9K python and even I would be nervous pulling a korth apart.

Thanks for the recommendations including PMs. That it's a Korth may add a bit of a twist, will see how it works out.

There is a way to SAE a revolver without disassembly. I did it with my 3" 686 prior to it being on the roster this year.

Let me dig up the link ... it's a very little talked about method but it has been posted before.
