Fair price for an 1980s Python

A friend of mine has an Colt Python he purchased back in the 80s. He shot it about 3 times, totaling less than 50 rounds. He kept it in a drawer wrapped by some towels for the last 30+ years. He is looking to sell it and I want to buy it. I just wonder what is the fair price on a stainless steel Python in mint condition,
with no marks, pits, etc. (no box or paper, he never kept them). It is a 5 inch, I think...

BTW, is stainless steel Pythons more or less expensive than the blued or nickel ones (given the same condition, size, age, etc)?

Do a Search in the classified handgun section I have seen a few in there its just a guide. Just because someone has one listed for x amount of $$ doesn't mean it sold for that price if it even sold at all

There isn't any 5" Pythons that I know of. There's 2.5", ultra rare 3", 4", 6" and 8". It should be worth around the $3,200-$3,500 range. Offer him $2,500 and see if he will sell it to you.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

True, but that is the 'market determined pricing' that OP was asking about.
Look at CalGuns handguns ads. Yesterday a nice blued Python from 1992 sold for $3K w/o box and papers. It took a couple of weeks but it sold.
Stainless ones are priced higher. One needs to also factor in the condition of the firearm. Fixing a Colt revolver can get expensive.

I agree that one can always buy more compared to the price of a higher end model of any handgun. Ergo the common question of whether custom 1911 are worth the bucks compared to production models.
But that is up to the individual.

Mine is a 6 inch and I had a guy offer me $2500 (500ish rounds through it, no box or papers) and I politely declined around the beginning of the year. Honestly, unless you just want a Python, I would recommend TRR8 (basically the Performance Center 327 line) for about 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost...

Edit to add: If anybody needs work done on a python, I completely recommend Pisco out of Oregon.

                  pythons

They are worth what the buyer is willing to pay.
I have the following blued collection, all in pristine condition, didn't pay more that 1k for each back in the 90's. If I was selling, I would start at 3K for each, especially for the 2.5" model IMG_3156.jpg

Pythons are terrific guns and they don't make them anymore. Prices reflect what people are willing to pay.

The blued ones are my favorites. Around $2000 to $2500.

There's a certain pride of ownership...for workmanship and historical reasons...that comes with a Python. That pic only shows why the TRR8 is worth "1/2 to 1/3 of the cost"

A fair price for a mint stainless Python is close or at 3K. A really good "bro" price is $2,500. If you guys are like real brothers from anotha motha, than 2K. Nickel is generally more valued by collectors, stainless for the rest of the population due to rick grimes.
