    Ruger Single Action Info Please

Picked up a Ruger Vaquero 44 mag 1994 vintage. Am I correct that the fixed sight vs adjustable is the only difference from the Blackhawk of the same vintage? The thing beats me up a bit with warm loads. Any recommendations for oversize rubber grips? Thanks so much.

    please check frame marking.

        omg
        your frame width = 0.4375 XR3?
now 0.500 is common for aftermarket grips.

My frame measures .498 according to my cheap caliper.

if you are getting beat up, your grips are probably too small. I don't care for the aesthetics of the rubber, but they do help.

Another suggestion is hold your grip low on the gun. Low as possible. it will keep your middle finger clear of the trigger guard and aid grip uniformity.

I think your best bet is to get some fatter grip panels.

Last suggestion, I don't know how mechanically inclined or motivated you are, but ruger single action revolvers are the chevy of the gun world. They are supremely easy to work on. Every part is available cheaply. There's a "chilton's" guide available for cheap. You can do ALOT with a pair of brass punches, a pair of good files, and one gunsmith's screwdriver. Point being, it's pretty easy to carve your own stocks if you wanted to try your hand at it. Even reshape the metal of the grip frame.

How are you getting beat up? might help drive to a solution. Vaquero is a fine gun in a 44.

The grips are too small and the trigger guard smacks my middle finger. I got the gun for Alaska fishing carry so aesthetics are secondary to control and comfort.

Try the pinkie under grip. The bottoms of the grips are beveled to slip that little finger underneath and will level your trigger finger. I tried Hogue rubber on on SA but hated the look and they prevent the revolver from rolling back during recoil, which is what it's supposed to do.

Sounds like you need a Bisley Vaquero. Much nicer to shoot with heavy loads.

                        My thoughts exactly

Lower hammer, longer grip with better angle.

Change it over to Super Blackhawk grip frame. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/56...l-in-the-white

It's a little longer so you'll need new grips too.
This is what Ruger has http://shopruger.com/Super-Blackhawk...uctinfo/70095/ or you can get anything from plain to fancy from Hogue.

Well thanks for the advice Gentlemen. The gun does fit a lot better with the pinky under the grip. Feels a bit strange, but fits much better. Thanks again.
