    Smith M&P Apex Trigger

I was given an Apex flat faced forward set trigger and have a few questions regarding what other Apex parts must be installed with it. I've already done a few M&Ps with Apex parts and have gotten sufficiently proficient that I hardly swear at all looping the trigger return spring over the pin or dropping the rear block into place while the trigger bar stays put.

My sear block has the older & thinner "small spring" for the sear and Apex's instructions say I must use the new "large spring" block and spring. I'm not sure why. I know there's a "sear flutter" issue but haven't experienced it at all. Why should the fast forward trigger cause an issue?

I have the standard "Apex upgraded" striker block plunger and understand that in theory the fast forward's shorter stroke won't lift it out of the way before the striker is released - I have their competition sear. Having installed a few fast forward triggers on slides I know didn't have the "fast forward plunger" I know the guns have gone "bang" as they should. So, is the trigger specific plunger really needed?

With the Apex regular aluminum trigger, competition kit my pull is about 2 lb 10 oz with a bit of take up. Should I leave well enough alone?

From.what I understand the stock m&p spring will bring the pull weight down in to the 2# range. Apex spring will leave it up around 3#. I haven't done this myself as mine is around 3# currently.

There are two different spring diameters - S&W started with a narrow diameter spring and spring hole in the sear block, then switched to a slightly larger diameter spring and hole. All the Apex springs are the larger diameter.

The upward pressure on the sear from either the older narrow or newer larger seems the same to me, so I can't figure out why installation of a different trigger would cause them to say "don't use the narrow spring".

Flat-Faced Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit for M&P This is the premier trigger kit for the M&P, taking a standard striker-fired trigger pull and elevating it to a trigger as close to that in a single-action 1911 that you can get in a polymer duty gun.

"This kit REQUIRES the use of the larger 1/8 inch sear spring and plunger set up. If your M&P has a 1/16th inch diameter sear plunger and spring, we strongly advise you upgrade to a new style sear housing block before installing this product."
