    Glock 17 vs 19 trigger

I've scoured the Internet and everything I can find indicates that the 17 and 19 trigger are 100% the same except for the 17 having a smooth face and the 19 having ridges.

But in my personal experience, the 17 trigger is infinitely smoother. I've compared my new 17 to a new 19 and the triggers are like night and day. I've tried putting a new 19 trigger into a g17, and the trigger immediately becomes rough. I've also done the opposite - putting a 17 trigger into a 19 gun, and it immediately becomes more smooth.

I've tried this experiment on 5 different guns with about 10 different triggers and the result is always the same. I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but the difference is very noticeable just on feel.

Anyone have a similar experience or know why this is happening? I would assume that Glock trigger bars are all made on one machine. Or maybe they have a separate machine for the 17 vs 19 and the tolerances are off on one?

The trigger differences are due to that point system they use to determine if a pistol can be imported to the USA.
    Dumb af.

I read about that. But I thought it was only the smooth vs ribbed face that was different, with the ribs making it a "target trigger" and therefore ok for importation. Or is the trigger purposely more gritty and more heavy to make it "safer" and ok to import?

For what it's worth, I think the reason for the heavy pull is centered around the way the trigger bar contacts the safety plunger, but I can't see any visual differences between the two.

The metal parts are exactly the same. Sure, there may be some surface finish variations from the stamping, bending process. Those contact surfaces could change the way the trigger feels. But the geometry is the same sans the smooth or ribbed face of the plastic trigger.

Dumb question probably... are both glocks you are trying same Gen? As in are they both Gen 3 or Gen 4? Or is one of them Gen 3 and the other Gen 4?

They're all gen 3. Three g19 and two g17 (one is the new rtf2). Every single one has a better trigger pull with a g17 trigger installed.

Switch the parts of trigger group piece by piece and see which part causes the difference, then use the tools of caliper and threads gauge to identify the root cause.

              Wait for your update!

Meh, my 19 trigger breaks nicer than my 34 even though the pull weights favor the 34. Go figure.

I would always buy a G17 trigger/bar and drop it in my G19's. I could not stand the grooved face trigger, I like them smooth.

I just re-read your OP. Since you said the G19 trigger in a G17 Frame feels bad, it is pretty isolated to the trigger assembly now.

So I would start looking at the individual components of the trigger assembly. Specifically the trigger bar contact point with connector, and also the trigger bar contact point with the striker safety.

Agreed, I have taken my 17 and 19 in multiple times saying "make them the same trigger!" 17 has a smoother non grit pull.

Take both slides apart and clean all the channels and retry. It sounds like there’s some gunk in the striker or striker block channels

What you are feeling is the connector to disconnector interface.

the smooth face of the G17 trigger also helps to make the trigger pull feel a little lighter / more comfortable surface for the finger to contact

a serrated trigger surface is sharper and makes the trigger pull feel a little rougher or heavier

I had the same problem, both Glock 17s. One had a smooth pull and nice break. The other was a gritty and broke at what felt like 10 pounds. Identical connectors.

Turns out the problem was the safety plunger on the slide of problem G17. Somehow, it had the spring sideways and was still pushing the safety plunger out but obviously not working as intended. Had to get the spring out with a magnet.

Put it in correctly. Fixed the problem.
