Safety Harbor Firearms recently made a .50 BMG single shot bolt action pistol. This would be Ca compliant, correct? I know it's not practical at all, but I want one.

Might be considered a destructive device depending on the groove diameter (pistols are measured by groove, rifles by land, I have the ATF spec somewhere). So if it's .51 or whatever in the land it is a DD. There is no way that any respected firearms manufacturer will ever produce a 50BMG pistol for commercial sale. It would be the biggest FU to the 50 community since, it would change the classification of 50BMG ammo and make most, if not all surplus rounds and surplus projectiles illegal for a FFL to sell. The .50 BMG cartridge is perfectly legal in California.
Rifles that fire the .50 BMG cartridge are banned in California. Please refer to Penal Code section 17090 for the definition of a "Rifle."
