    Replacing M&P Shield sights

I'm just venting. Trying to replace the front sight seems impossible. I just put the slide in the freezer. I'll try again tomorrow.

I just did mine a couple days ago. Make sure you drive it out towards the ejection port side, apparently the dovetail is tapered

MGW sight pusher. Problems solved. No busted sights. No slide damage.

A lil emery cloth, a good brass punch and patience. Almost forgot on a solid vise with correct pads.

Getting the old one off or getting the new one on?

Off was no problem for me, have done a few. Getting the new one on, front or back, can be quite a chore. I gave up on the sight pusher. Removed just a bit off the bottom flat of the replacement sights made things alot easier - brass punch and some tapping worked fine.

Having a hard time removing the stock front sight. Using a hammer, punch, and table vice. It was very easy to do on my Glock. Not the Shield!

S&W puts the rear sight allen screw in with RED loctite. Yikes! Red is for mounting permanently. After many tries; I finally used a soldering iron (not a gun) and held it on the screw for a short amount of time. Took a few tries to break that red loctite. BTW; the rear needs to be removed towards one side only. I forget which? My last Shield sight replacement (I have two Shields) was done by a gunsmith. Now that was easy!

Which sights are you installing? Most sight companies offer install for free. I sent my slide and sights to Ameriglo for a free install. I believe Trij does the same.

I think I damaged 3 punches and really marred up my sight pusher trying to get the rear shield sight off!!

4lb sledge and a punch works for me.

I used a hammer and a nylon punch the first time and it was a pain! The second time I replaced them I used a sight pusher, much easier.

According to Brownells, this is discontinued and no longer available:
