Why don't you call the LVPD and ask them? That would make more sense than trying to obtain legal advice from members of a CA based website.

A good place to find the answer would be here:

Yes, you can open carry in Las Vegas. Although LVMPD knows and is aware, it's possibly not the greatest idea to do it in or around the Strip or downtown area, you WILL get hassled. I've opened carried a few times, especially during the summer, no hiccups... even had an LVMPD officer open the door for me at Applebee's while walking in.

I OC in Carson City/Reno often when I am there. I have never made it to vegas before so I cant tell you what the reaction is going to be, but I know I have never had a problem in Reno/Carson area.

                  Personal opinion

Although I know it is technically legal to open carry in Nevada, I'd be reluctant to do it in an urban, tourist infested area like Las Vegas. I have spent time in Las Vegas recently, and the area around the big hotels and casinos is very congested with tourists from the US and foreign countries, especially China. Most are not accustomed to civilians open carrying guns, and you don't want that kind of attention.

I can carry concealed in Nevada so it is not an issue for me, but anybody who can obtain a Utah permit can do the same thing and maintain a low profile with your gun.

My Nevada CCW instructor is a long term LVPD officer. This specific question came up in class.

He very carefully made the distinction that while it is not 'legal' to carry open in LV (meaning that there is no specific law permitting it), it is not 'illegal' (meaning there is no specific law against it).

So, if you choose to open carry on the strip you are not breaking any law.

However, when that little old lady tourist from New Jersey calls 911 screaming that there is a man with a gun walking down the sidewalk, prepare to be stopped and handcuffed face down on the sidewalk while the nice LEOs figure out what is what.

Now before you turn up your flamethrower please understand that I am all for open carry. But I am also for the application of the 'right-time-right-place' principal.

So, self-defense and the right to protect yourself is done on a set schedule? All days except Monday and maybe Tuesday, but not Sunday, between the hours of 1200 to 1600 except 1350 when the New Jersey folks are out? Please...

Laws make things illegal, if it's not illegal, it's legal. I don't understand how you would grossly follow that instruction. Be proactive and research yourself.

I do agree that if there's no law that strictly forbids it, then it's not illegal. In terms of firearms, however, people's reactions are going to vary greatly.

I just see 911 getting a report that there's a "Man with a gun" on the strip... If this happens, I think we all can agree that the police will likely respond to this type of situation with a strong show of force.. Guns drawn, facedown on the pavement type situation..

IMHO, if there's a viable method for carrying concealed, why not pursue that? I've always felt the "open carry movement" in California was not simply to be able to carry openly, but to force the current legislature to reveiw/reform the 'concealed' carry laws- a show of defiance and tenacity. Nevada is already gun friendly- what are you really trying to do? If you wanted to protect yourself, then a CCW is going to be infinitely preferrable to carrying it openly- especially since it seems easy to acquire.

Carrying openly might be a lot more problematic than it's worth. Im not against the idea, I just think there's a better option available is all.

I would like to somebody to tell me what is exactly viable method for carrying concealed during summertime in Nevada? Or Southern CA for that matter. The only viable cloth during that time is T-shirt and shirts..... so... how exactly?
I was carrying CCW in Vegas about a ten days ago and by 12 pm it got somewhat uncomfortable in my very light jacket. We are talking February. I can't imagine viable way to CCW in June if you trying to carry anything bigger than pocket "mouse" pistols.
