    9mm hollowpoint vs 45 hollowpoint

I always read about 9mm hollowpoint being compared to 45 ACP ball ammo. But rarely see any comparison to each other if both are hollowpoints.

It stands to reason that a 45 hollowpoint will be much better than a 45 FMJ but is that in fact true?

Trying to decide what to carry (Glock 19 vs Glock 38) which are both the same size but the G38 can use 45 GAP ammo and I can get some nice Gold Dot hollowpoint ammo in 180 grain.

Will the 180 grain 45 GAP ammo (essentially the same ballistics as the 45 ACP) in a hollowpoint be much superior to a 124 or even a 147 grain 9mm hollowpoint? My gut tells me yes but rarely do I see an apples to apples comparison (9mm hollowpoint vs 45 hollowpoint) to be sure. Thoughts?

Dont buy a GAP 45. It is a dead and dying caliber. If you want 45 buy 45 ACP. If you want to shoot a lot buy 9mm as it is cheaper. In reality it comes down to shot placement plan and simple.

They both do the job but 9mm is cheaper and lighter and you can carry more in a compact or subcompact handgun. Both great to shoot though

Don't buy a GAP 45. It is going to be very hard to find ammo eventually.

He already has the GAP gun, why not use it?

Interestingly, if you leave GAP brass around, everyone will know it was you!

Now related question ... which would be less likely to go through drywall? 9mm or 45 hollowpoints ...

Just the right moment, watch the "9mm and .45 ACP Federal HST Ammo: Hot or Just Hype?" video from Paul Harrell on YouTube

I go with the 45 GAP. 45 HP beats 9mm HP every time. I am considering a Glock 37 and I am a reloader.

Correct, already have the G38. The weight and recoil penalty is minimal compared to the G19. I shoot both equally well.

To get the same amount of rounds into the G38 as the 19, I am planning to use a 10 round gap mag with an X grip. Makes the gun slightly harder to conceal.

If I could carry the G19 as it was designed with it's 15 round mags, it would be a no brainer for me.

"9mm may not expand; .45 will never shrink".

If you can't hit, it doesn't matter.

Defensive ammo has come a long way

A .45 HP will likely cause more disruption than a 9mm HP. This statement depends on endless variables but makes sense because the .45 starts with more surface area.

The 9mm will offer greater capacity, lower recoil and better penetration than the .45

It is Good Enough as a defensive cartridge as long as you get it on target.

Run the video, then copy the URL from the right side up to but not including the "=".
Paste that between the commands of "[Utube] and [/Utube]
