Red dot sight on a Springfield XDM

Thinking about mounting a red dot sight on my Springfield XDM. Anybody done that and have any good or bad stories? I was going to take the approach of replacing the rear sight and mounting it on an adapter to the slide.

I’m not sure you can do that without milling the slide. Milling tends to run about 180 bucks. You might want to look into UM tactical universal mount. I have one on my XD. Works great. Only problem is to remove the slide, you have to remove the mount which isn’t hard but it necessitates zeroing the red dot when you reinstall. Just Google “universal red dot Mounts” as there are other manufacturers

I was looking ast this mount.

If you have a Springfield XDM, that's not optics ready and want the BEST mounting plate solution to install a red dot optic, like a Holosun 407c, 507c (and more), along with any Trijicon RMR, (or similar style footprint) or, the Vortex Venom, Burris Fastfire 2,3, 4 and more optics available (red more JT Defense's Optic Mount, has the only 3-point, Ultra Solid option available, Anywhere! This patent pending design, is low-profile, and will never move! We manufacture the only optic mount in the industry, that allows the Dovetail, and the Striker, to literally lock your optic to your slide so solid, we guarantee it will never move, lose zero, or worse.. come flying off your slide like some of the cheap mounts you see on bargain websites. Machined out of 6061, or 7075 billet, they're so rugged, they've even survived a 12,000 ft drop out of an airplane and still remained Zero'd, even though the poor optic didn't come out so lucky.

Springer and EGW also has a mount

I put a Trijicon RMR on my XD 5" Tactical (9mm). No milling required, I just bought the adaptor plate, pressed out the rear sight and installed the plate. It is accurate. My problem is that I have practiced and been schooled on drawing from a holster with 3 dot sights so now I have train myself to acquire the dot. It will take practice to retrain my muscle memory. Before I could focus on the front sight and bring the rear sights up level. The red dot really slows me down.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong...

I put a Burris Fastfire3 (3 MOA red dot) on my XD a couple years ago and only thing I wish was different was a simple on/off and not the 4 click button with off then 3 levels of brightness. Not a real noticeable click on the power levels so easy to leave it on and drain the batteries.

Burris has mounts that replace the rear sight for several specific guns. I could not get the rear sight out with a block and punch, it was in too tight. Had to take to a gun smith with a rear sight pusher made for the XD. Had the mount pushed in with the same tool.

Springer precision apparently sells a specific mount for the XDM 5.25. I'm trying to figure out how to remove the sight since the 5.25 sight is screwed on not dove tailed. I'm going to follow up with them since it doesn't look like their mount requires milling of the slide.
