Colt 1991A1

At my local pawn shop I saw a Colt 1991A1 for sale. Firm price $1300. Low Round count. Slide is tight with very little wobble. Taking the gun down, there seems to be little wear except on the barrel where it says Colt 45 ACP. Outside finish looks to be parkerized , not blue, and looks very nice other than one 'idiot mark'. I've been told bu the shop owner that he is familiar with this gun and has fired it himself and vouches for it. Is this a decent deal? Any concerns I should look for?

If that is what you feel comfortable paying than it's a good deal for you. Depends on how bad you really want it. Considering you have to pay tax on top of that I personally would pass but I already own a 1991 so I'm not really looking for one.
By the looks of the roll mark it is probably made between 91-00. I believe that's when they changed to the new roll mark which is more desirable.
In the end though what's a few extra hundred dollars down the road.

Price seems high to me for a very basic Colt 1911, even for California. Especially since the MSRP for a brand new one is $799 in free states. I would rather spend less money on a new on-roster Springfield Armory 1911, or a little more on this on-roster 1911 https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...ducts_id/95401

The rollmark he is referring to is the ginormous billboard on the left side slide that says COLT M1991A1. Not many people appreciate that, especially on a Colt.

It may be DROSd as a PPT, but if it is on display at the store then it is a consignment, and tax will be charged. Maybe the pawn shop will eat the tax, maybe it is rolled into the price, or maybe they just play loose with tax laws.

But if it is displayed, then it is taxable.

These were on roster up until a few years ago, they were $800ish. Personally I'd hold out for a rail gun or a XSE or something nicer than a basic A1 model, if the price was $1300. Unless an A1 really floats your boat, in which case the price doesn't matter so much. But for that kind of $$ you might find an older MkIV Series 80 1911 which IMO is more desireable than a 1991.

For this gun in CA, $900 would be a deal and $1050ish maybe the upper end.

I hear you. $1300 was out the door price so all fees must be included. I do enjoy mil spec to be honest but not to say I wouldnt like any other model ie. mkIV or XSC. However isnt it all about availability here in Cali? I am a newer gun collector/buyer since 2014. I didnt have the luxuries of getting now off roster Colts. Colt pistols and revolvers do command a much higher price now than ever and everyone knows that. So when they drop I feel you have to move on it or else someone else will.

I have a Colt XSE bought before it fell off CA roster and it's excellent.

However, I'd rather put a $1300 down payment on a brand new Les Baer.

Colt in OP is nice -- I wouldn't pay the asking price personally; for that price you can get close to a really nice brand new 1911.
