Send it to Tanaka in Gardena if you want a world class smith that is relatively local. Closer to OC, I have heard only good things about Applied Kinetics. They can definitely fix your 1911 or at least tell you that it is buggered

I took my Springfield loaded slide in to have them install a Dawson F/O front sight. It came back badly mangled. All dented in on one side where they used a punch and hammer to beat it into place. Worse, it was off center. Avoid these guys at all costs. If you can't do a sight swap on a 1911 you can't do squat!!

The reply I got was "ohh man, sorry about that".
          WTF. Really?

With that, I cannot imagine what they've done to the internals.

They owe you a new gun, and new, in box/bag custom parts they worked on.

If they touched it, they replace it.

If these guys can’t do a simple dovetail sight installation, I’d like to see this bobtail job.

There is a great 1911 guy in corona. He did work on my dad's open race gun and a couple old amt pistols and did great work. I would have to look up his info. Pm me if you want it.

It's also a possibility that around the same time, someone else sent armstrong an identical Springfield milspec that was to be bobtailed and converted to full auto and he just mixed up the orders. Simple mistake! Lol

In all seriousness, I think Armstrong owes you a new gun.

I too can now not recommend Armstrong for 1911 work. After 2 trips my trigger will still not rest reliably.

I am very happy with with the Cerakote job and sight install on my M&P.

Wow. Just wow. They definitely owe you a new gun. I would have refused the gun back at that point. However, that's all water under the bridge. I would demand a new replacement gun. Also, Tanaka in Gardena is very highly respected as a 1911 smith. (Plus Gardena is my home town!).

Hope you get it all sorted out quickly and painlessly.

Sorry, but if there were any great gunsmiths in all of the PRK then they would be booked until eternity. Look for some great gunsmiths on Bullseye-L-Forum, 1911 Forum, 1911 Addicts Forum, 1911 Pro Forum, Firing Line Forum, GlockTalk Forum, Nighthawk Custom, Business End Customs, Greg Derr, Pistolwrench, & FAAWrenchBender.

Personally, if they had done to me or any of my guns what they did to you & yours, my first trial shots would have been right there in that repair shop.

As most know i'm a bit of a pistol guy and specifically a 1911 guy. i get asked alot about where to send a gun for misc work. i found most of this list on another site but added a few they missed figure this will get most pointed in the right direction. I added a lot to these lists and took some...
