    Help with Ruger LCP reassembly/problem

I have a first generation LCP that I disassembled and when trying to reassemble, the slide would not push all the way back. This was with the hammer pre-cocked and no magazine. When I force it back, the slide pushes down on the stamped piece with the * (trigger guard?) And drops the hammer. At this point the slide goes back and I can reinstall the pin but the hammer will not pre-cock and therefore won't fire. Also, it seems unlikely that it is functioning properly if the stamped piece drops the hammer.

Is my next step to contact Ruger? Any help/advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Can you make a video of the problem?

Did you disassemble the frame or just field strip it? IF frame~~https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zE-GTMNyHk&t=1s and look closely at 56 min mark on..

I only field stripped it, but I may watch that video to see if it get any ideas. I did disassemble it once over a year ago but haven't had any issues until now.

After stripping, try cocking the hammer back with a pen first and then put the slide back on. That might fix the issue.

Yup. The LCP series is the best pocket carry option out there (in free states)

Thank you. I did do that but the slide hits the trigger guard and drops the hammer back down.

Ok, here is the next best thing...

Here you can see the hammer is cocked and the slide hitting the trigger bar (edited, thanks). This can't be right.

That is not a trigger guard, it is the trigger bar.

Pushing down on it should not drop the hammer. Your trigger spring may be out of position. I would detail strip it, inspect and reassemble, or if you are not comfortable doing that - send it to Ruger.

The spring needs to be under the trigger bar. It is held there by a very shallow groove in the underside of the bar. Sometimes it will slip out and folks will not notice

There are a ton of videos and how to guides out there, many of them from the after market trigger folks. Here is one

Here is a video from Galloway

Thanks SkyHawk and everyone else! Upon further disassembly, the hammer catch spring had somehow come out of the hole on the hammer catch. Put it back, now good to go!
Saved me weeks not having to send to Ruger. Next time I'll proceed to tear further apart.
